Rock Star, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core (Genesis/Zack)

Title: Rock Star
Author: GuiltyRed
Rating:
PG13
Warnings: snark, some foreshadowing
Word count: 400
Prompt:
Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, Genesis/Zack: domination – So, you think you are that good, do you?
Summary: What would Genesis do with a helpless puppy?
A/N: Title from the song “Rock Star,” which inspired the mood for this little short.

You certainly have him fooled, don’t you? Not an easy thing; Angeal is usually untouchable, unreachable except for me.

And Sephiroth. But let’s not talk about him.

I’ve watched you work your way into his trust, into his time and his life and, what – his bed as well? Oh, don’t pretend. It’s unbecoming, and you’re not good at lying.

If you were awake right now, you would be trying that “puppy charm” on me, wouldn’t you? But you won’t wake, not for some hours yet; even Angeal doesn’t know what I put in your drink when you left it unattended during practice. I gave you time to shower and return to your quarters, you should be grateful. Otherwise you’d be sleeping the night away on the floor of the training room, and wouldn’t that be awkward?

You don’t look like much, not now, with your t-shirt rucked up over your belly and underwear askew from your last rollover. Just another hot-shot farmboy trying to take my rightful place at Angeal’s side.

Or at Sephiroth’s – but enough about him.

I’m watching you breathe. Does that knowledge seep into your dreams, making you restless? Do you know how helpless you are?

Does that frighten you?

Curiosity brings me to touch your hair. To my surprise, it’s rather soft; then again, you’d just showered. I swallow against a lump in my throat as I wonder if Angeal has run his fingers through this unruly mane, if it was sun-dry or shower-damp, if he was pulling your mouth to his or pushing your head lower.

I have no proof, of course, and I’m not about to ask Angeal.

I sure as hell won’t be asking you.

You’re not going to take what’s mine, boy. If I wanted to, I could kill you in your sleep – though you’ll never know that, will you? Doesn’t matter. I know that I beat you today, and that is enough.

You will wake sometime in the middle of the night, no doubt with a pounding head and a sour stomach. You’ll probably blame something you ate and never suspect your drink.

Don’t worry, I won’t do this again. I won’t have to. I know that I have spared your life this night, and even though you won’t understand you are now in my debt. I’ll call for payment when the time suits me.

And believe me, you will pay.

OH YES! I LOVED THIS ONE! It is very Genesis! I tend to believe that he blamed Zack for "losing" Angeal. Mwwhahah.

I can SO see Genesis honestly considering drugging someone's drink a victory. And that he should get a cookie for not killing the person he drugged.

...fic is almost starting to make me like Gacktesis. I need to start playing CC again (or youtube the scene where he trips Zack up) so I can remember how much he irritates the shit out of me. XD

I love the way you put this. Sums it up in a nutshell.

And boy, is Genesis wondering how he got into that nutshell...

Nutcase, nutshell, it's close enough for ShinRa government work, so I'm sure Gen isn't noticing too much. XD

Thank you -- Stalker!Genesis is the ultimate boogieman. *nodnod*

And considering his background, it makes a horrible kind of sense: tinkered with from before birth, raised in a chilly family environment (hey, small-time mayors tend to have delusions of grandeur, right?), and then measured against the likes of Sephiroth (teenage war hero) -- doesn't make for a happy, stable man.

Not to mention, for all practical purposes his arch-nemesis was banging his half-sister...

Speaking of his background, on my LJ and IJ I asked people for takes on their characterizations of him. On LJ, I had someone bring up the fact that he, y'know, shot his best friend in the face with a fireball and that was before he technically went crazy. So, if you have anything to add, I'd love to hear it as well, because yeah, now I'm looking for different perspectives on Genesis.

I...don't think he had a very good childhood at all. He always suspected his parents weren't his own, and I get the feeling he was the type to escape into books and had this rich fantasy life before reality just wasn't working for him, and when he joined SOLIDER, he thought reality was going to go the way his dreamworld did, and, yeah. I also think there has to be a reason why Angeal stuck with him through so much of his batshit.

I had quite a bit to say about Genesis to an Ljuser named Sphinxofthenile (FF.net account: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1342021/), but it was through FF.net PMs and I no longer have the statements. She might though. It all boiled down to me believing that Genesis had an unstable self-image, VERY impulsive, and I also agree that while his childhood was materially good, he was emotionally deprived/abused. It's one of those childhoods where you KNOW that something is missing/wrong, but can't prove anything or put a finger on it. Of course it doesn't justify his less pleasant actions, but it sure explains it.

Honestly, I don't think he was ever really evil, just a deeply troubled person who spent years doing his damndest to keep everything together, but fell apart when he started to deteriorate. His acts, while unpleasant, were mostly out of desperation rather than superior attitude malice. I think it actually started RIGHT BEFORE the trio fight, but his actions towards Angeal were impulsive acts that he wasn't very proud of. IMO, he looked pretty horrified once he realized what he had done.

I never mentioned it before because of the possible YIKES factor, but I think he might have had Borderline Personality Disorder. From what I've seen of him and what I've read about this very debilitating disorder, he hits quite a few of those symptoms. Still, I can't imagine a video game dealing with such a very real, very serious disorder, but who knows?

I do agree that he escaped through books. As for Angeal, well, honestly, I think him and his family were the very people who saved him from committing suicide/completely falling apart. I view Angeal as someone who helped Genesis "keep it together", so to speak.

Also, he's one of the few villains IN FF7 that actually CAN be redeemed and be believable.

This is why I think that Angeal stuck by Genesis so long partially out of guilt--I get the feeling as a kid he missed what was wrong but eventually twigged on to it, and then couldn't do anything to help, and it just killed him. And now, he kinda feels like if he had done something sooner or if he had said something to someone, Genesis wouldn't be so bad off. And if Angeal did feel like he was the one keeping Genesis together, he had to be feeling like he was failing, watching Genesis go sailing off the deep end this time.

I'll have to look at that fight again (yeah, twist my arm there. XD ) to look at Genesis's face right after he firebombs Angeal in the face, to see what his expression is like.

And I think Genesis definitely has some kind of personality disorder, that's for damned sure, and that with as much of a physical change as the deteriorations were making, they had to be causing mental changes as well, making him even more unstable than before.

Considering how they showed a broken and overwritten Cloud in the original game, it wouldn't really surprise me...
