Email blocked?
Due to some of the feedback I have received here I believe that some of our mail may be blocked by one of the large email provider. If you are not receiving notifications or validation emails please let me know here who your email provider is.

Also, the move is now complete, so if you are still not seeing some of your userpics, you will need to remove and re-upload them. I apologize for loosing some of them.

In addition, I want to use this space to address some concerns that were brought up about scheduling downtime. I do admit that I should have done a better job at letting everyone know when I would be on working the site. The reason I did was that there was so much work to do that I was working on the site every time I had a free moment, and I didn't know when I would have free time. Moving forward I will work to give better notifications as to when there is potential downtime.

Not getting any notifications, and I use Hotmail.

Thank you for all the time and effort you put into this, Squeaky. While scheduled maintenance is always the optimal solution, it's not always the available one, and we understand that. :D

Hm, I use gmail, and I've been getting all of my notifications with no problems.

I think you've been doing a great job with downtime and keeping the users of the site informed. I think some people just need to be a little more patient and a little more understanding. Thanks for everything! :]

notice of downtime

Advance notification, of possible downtime, would be like seriously seriously appreciated. And the reason is this: While it doesn't matter so much for my personal journal, on multiple asylums that i participate in, we have posts that are supposed to go up at certain time or day. If I had advance notice, instead of getting upset when I can't fulfill what is expected, i could drop a note telling people that the discussion, or whatever is being postponed till things were up and running. :D then the down time wouldn't bother us so much.

I get why this isn't always possible for you. but for times when you know, even roughly, when it might occur, advanced notification would be really really appreciated.

thank you, squeaky.

Notification even on twitter would be amazingly helpful. What has been irritating has not been so much the downtime as the fact that we have repeatedly had to remove/reload userpics and style codes. We see a notification here that you are done moving stuff, so we fix them, then someone starts moving things around again and then they are broken AGAIN. It's very frustrating and if you can figure out what you are doing that causes this stuff to get broken whenever you are in there we would all appreciate it.

The other thing that would be nice would be for the people who read this comm to see suggestions for what they are and irritation for what it is. People who have just fixed something for the third time in a week have a right to be slightly irritated and as long as no-one is being abusive, your fans should not flame anyone who asks you to do something in a tone that is not, "we are unworthy of your notice, your shit smells like strawberries, everything you do has rainbows in it, and would you like a blowjob with that?"

I haven't seen a single suggestion on this community that's a tenth as rude as the average LJ user suggestion. This is a hobby for you, but thousands of people depend on it and you do get paid for it by ad revenues and paid accounts. Your fans need to understand that it's not unreasonable for people in your community to ask for fairly simple and standard things like site maintenance notification.

PS: the next time someone uses a Greg House journal to tell me I or someone I'm agreeing with is not being nice enough, I will sign in as Chase and mock them severely. That's ten kinds of just wrong.

The emails only stopped working for me a couple of hours ago. I have my own domain darkness-descends.net at one.com/b-one.com and I usually never have any problems receiving emails so I don't really know.

Thanks for all your hard work though, I hope you know we really appreciate it! You rock!

I am also not getting notifs through hotmail for any of my journals, including this one.

And personally, I thought you did a fine job letting us know about moving things and downtime. I don't need to know every time you sneeze, a general sort of thing was just fine.

Hi Squeaky! I just have a quick question, will you ever offer the option to just buy extra userpics or is the only way to get them to buy a paid account? Thanks! :D

I'll join the masses, using GMAIL, getting most of my replies, but I am *not* getting replies to posts in this account. Most of my IJ business is role playing, and most of that is done in communities, and while a comment or two might not be delivered, for the most part I think I'm getting all the community based replies. I am not getting notification of items I have set to track, though, and I'm not too concerned with that, but I would like emails for my personal account to come through!

As for prior notification of down time, it's not a big deal. Sure it's frustrating when the site goes down, and if we knew ahead of time, we could work around it, but as a refugee from a similar site which offered no official notice of downtime or reasons for problems, I appreciate all that you do to keep IJ up and running and a little unannounced down time is a small price to pay. Thank you for all you do, most of us appreciate your dedication to the site, and to communication!
