Brush With Death (tag: Bill)
That mad, impossible, wonderful man!
There was no other explanation; somehow or other the Doctor had saved her, just as he always saved her. She remembered being wired into The Library's hard drive, her beloved handcuffed to prevent him from stopping her. Handcuffs and the Doctor- now that was a whole new set of memories! Forcing herself to focus, River tried to remember exactly what else had happened. She had felt the rush of electricity for a split second and then...
Well, then she was here.
She didn't have any idea how he had done it, but she knew he had. Now it was just a matter of getting out of here, wherever here was. Her scanner had given her no more indication other than that she was on an island. She had found it in the little basket along with maps and points of interest regarding the resort and the island. She had read through it all very carefully half expecting a hidden message in the pamphlets from the Doctor, but had been disappointed. So she was on her own to figure it out. Wasn't that the way it always went?
Her mind argued that if the Doctor sent her here, he knew where she was and would be along shortly to get her. Made sense, right? Except that it was the Doctor. This was probably some silly test, to see how long it would take her to figure it out. Like when he left her wrist bound by the Weeping Angel and told her to get herself out without breaking her wrist. As if there would have been a way to do that. She was good, but she wasn't that good.
She began to gather her things, wondering briefly how he could possibly have done it. Not just gotten her here, but all her most precious items as well. The vortex manipulator, her own special tube of lipstick, the scanner, and the sonic screwdriver he'd given her right before she left him to go to The Library. Even her diary was here. And she failed to put two and two together that she was no longer wearing the spacesuit, just a pair of jeans and a white blouse. Later, it would occur to her that he couldn't have. Not without being here himself. But she was too excited at the moment to think that clearly. To River, in that precise moment, there was no doubt.
The Doctor was coming for her.
She practically skipped through the hotel to the front doors, hurrying outside. She paused a few steps from the doors, watching and listening. Listening for the sound of the TARDIS, watching for signs of the Doctor.
