"I'm in love with you."
Draco turned and looked at Gilderoy, staring out the window at the blowing snow. "Well, that's good, 'cause I wouldn't want to think it was one-sided."
"No, I really am. I mean, no, it isn't like that. It's hard to explain. I love you more than anything." He turned away from the blizzard. "I love you more than me."
That was something Draco thought he'd never hear coming from the mouth of Gilderoy Lockhart. "What?"
Gilderoy looked out the window again. "I was just thinking that if you were out there in the snow, and you hadn't come back yet. I think I would go out there and look for you. Because I think I would need to do that. Even though it's likely I would be hurt or... or worse. If you were out there, and you couldn't make it back here to me, I would go."
A long silence filled the room. Finally breaking it with the rustle of fabric as he stood, Draco made his way over to Gilderoy's side.
Gilderoy turned to him, moisture in his eyes. "I think I'm terrified at that."
Draco swallowed hard and leaned in to kiss his love. It was soft and gentle at first, but quickly grew into something much deeper and more passionate. "It's alright. That wouldn't happen. Because I'm here with you and not out there in the snow. And I won't be out there in the snow because I would never, and will never leave you."
Their promise rings hummed with yet another vow.
"Dammit, I have to stop doing that!" Draco muttered.
Narcissa cleared her throat at the door, and both men turned to her. "What did you mean by 'What' your father might have been?"
