Who: Spencer and Emily
What: Catching up
When: nowish
Where: the prison
Warnings: Doubtful
Spencer hated housekeeping with a fiery fucking passion. She would rather be doing anything, anything. There were children in the prison and okay they weren't that much younger than Spencer herself but she doubted that they could hold a candle to her academically. Why couldn't she be a teacher or something else? Why housekeeping? It was degrading. She knew that feeling so strongly about it made her a somewhat bad person. Her parents had kept two housekeepers on staff to ensure that the Hastings' house was always perfect immaculate. The housekeepers hadn't been bad people, they had probably lead more upstanding lives than Spencer and Melissa had and they were still young women.
Sharing chores with Emily and Matt had made the job a lot more enjoyable than it would have been otherwise. Spencer wasn't kidding when she had told Emily she believed in miracles. Analytical, scientific Spencer. Maybe she had to do a little penance, maybe she had to wash some socks and underpants and sheets and sweep up messes but her friends were here. Maybe if she scrubbed just a little bit harder she could magically will Aria and Hanna into existence too. She really hoped the tiniest of their group was still alive somewhere.
Emily was on housekeeping duty. It was actually Spencer's day off. She and Matt had arranged it with Vera so that they could have the same day off. But Emily was working and while Spencer was the last one to shirk duty, she thought the good news of Emily's parents being safe and alive deserved a little break. She went up to Emily and excitedly wrapped her arms around her friend's slender figure, holding her tightly.
"I am so happy for you, Em," Spencer said as she pulled away from her remaining best friend.
