Who: Dimitri, Natasha, Viktoria, Inna, and the evil bastard Nathan Where: In town What: A meet up and finalizing plans When: Tonight Warnings: Nothing specific, but it will not be happy reading.
The spot at the church had been picked for a reason. The building itself may not have been standing any longer, and that was all thanks to him, but the ground itself was still sacred. Fire hadn't changed that. If Nathan as so much as looked at Natasha the wrong way, Dimitri would make sure she was safe by pushing her onto the church's grounds and fighting the Strigoi himself. They could not cross the border of sacred ground.
He prepared two bags of warm clothes and blankets. His intention was that she would not need many sets at all, but would be at the prison where no one could harm her. Viktoria would not crave the bite and she would no longer be cold. A third bag was filled with various foods. He tried to look through the kitchen supplies to take what could be spared and brought along what would strengthen her the most. He wished he had the ingredients and the time to attempt one of their mother's old recipes but that would have to wait until she was returned to him and she was well enough to do the cooking herself. Viktoria took after him in many ways, but she, Karolina and Sonya were taught well by their mother in the kitchen.
The last of his supplies were ready and he sat inside of his cell for longer than he had in weeks. The way this meeting happened was very important. If Nathan suspected anything from Dimitri or Tasha then Viktoria would likely be killed in front of him. He knew that Tasha could play the part required, but Nathan was going to be looking for reasons not to trust him. He hoped that his words to Viktoria over the next couple of times he saw or spoke to her would save her life. He was going to break her heart as well as his own, but he felt he had no other choice.
Nor did he have a choice but to eventually bring in Lissa or Jill. Weighing the options in his mind, he felt sick with either option. He would protect them with his life, but he could not show up without either and expect Viktoria to live. Lissa was the elder sibling and he knew she would agree to this even if it frightened her. It frightened Dimitri too. Jill was barely an adult and had been shadowkissed to Adrian. This was her second chance at life just as it was his. So, his decision had been made.
Carrying the bags with him, Dimitri set out for the edge of the prison yard where he knew to meet with Natasha. She was already waiting for him when he arrived. Nodding to her, they set off out of the prison yard and towards town. He wasn't must for making small talk under good circumstances and this was hardly a good circumstance.
"Thank you again for coming with me," he said after a moment or so of walking and were long out of ear shot from the prison. "I plan to tell Rose before the final exchange meeting, but telling her before we had this in place would result in her believing she could go after him herself. He despises her nearly as much as he does me."
