Who: Serena, Damon and later the hbic Pam What: Rescuing Nate! Or well, trying to and failing spectacularly Where: The woods Warnings: Zombies
Serena really didn't care what Nate had to say about it. She was going out there to that bloodhouse out in the woods to get him. So what if it was dangerous? She knew that if the tables were turned he would do the same for her, he wouldn't just leave her there. And he'd sounded so miserable during their brief conversation she couldn't get it out of her head. It was eating at her and she knew that Gigi must be sick of sleeping in the same cell as the girl that kept tossing and turning.
Okay, it was guilt that was really nagging at her, keeping her awake at night. What she had done, why she had left Manhattan was so reprehensible she had been doing nothing in the last year but trying to find a way to make up for it all. Everyone saw her and thought she was so sweet but the truth was Serena was a manipulator. She always knew how to get what she wanted in the end and she wasn't afraid to break a few eggs just to make an omelette. Playing as Gossip Girl was just a stepping stone right back to bad habits with Blair. And Dan...
Somewhere along the way Serena had realized that Dan would never have the chance to forgive her. Because Dan was probably dead. Just like Lily was probably dead and Eric was probably dead and Blair was probably dead. Just like she had thought Nate was. Nate wasn't Dan but he was something she could do right for once.
She was going, there was literally no talking her out of it. She didn't care how dangerous it was. She'd made it all the way from New York on her own, she knew that she might not be super girl but she was capable of taking care of herself in her own way. But she knew she was no match for roves of zombies and she was safer with a vampire. She had learned to rely on them since the outbreak and this was no exception.
She had packed a messenger bag with a few things. A knife and some water and a few other things. She changed into a pair of raged and ratty jeans from Target and tied her hair back into a poofy blonde ponytail. When she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror she couldn't think of anything but how different the girl in the reflection was from the former it girl of Manhattan's elite. Target brand clothes instead of the expensive designers she had once coveted. She was hardly wearing any makeup at all and hadn't bothered in ages to tease her hair the way she once had. This wasn't the same girl. This was the girl who was going to save Nate Archibald.
"Hi." She smiled at Damon when he appeared. "Are you ready for this?" she asked him tentatively. The irony of the situation was that Serena might have changed but she was still in many ways up to her old tricks. She had no problem manipulating Damon or Elena to get what she wanted. It was just that what she wanted was Nate safe and sound at the prison so she couldn't be that bad, right?
