It had been easy to get out of the shift she’d been working down in the infirmary. Since she’d arrived nearly two months ago there had been a slow influx of medical staff, which had been great for the prison as a whole, and freeing for Julia because it cut her hours in half. Giving her more time to teach and spend with Vera, who had admittedly become the center of her life at the moment. Maybe that’s why she’d missed this, the events that had led to Merle leaving. Of course she’d known about the public discord within the prison and how Merle had started to feel isolated and paranoid. But when they had talked briefly it hadn’t been about hating vampires or the prison council. They’d talked about family, Daryl and Vera. He’d even invited her to dance at the Christmas party which she thought lent to the idea that he planned on sticking around. So when she’d seen Daryl’s post earlier she’d been shocked and immediately concerned for her friend though admittedly they hadn't spoken in awhile. But she wouldn't let something like that get in the way of being there.
So when it looked like Daryl would let her come over and visit with him Julia took the chance, knowing personally just how much it helped to have someone there when it felt like your world was caving in and nothing would ever be the same again. Ten minutes later she was knocking gently on the bars of the the other man’s cell, smile soft and kind as she walked inside. “Hey stranger, long time no see.”
