Who: Neal Caffrey and open to anyone who wants to save greet him at the projects What: Arriving to the projects Where: Housing Projects When: After he leaves the prison
Even if some of the words he said to the others on his way out rang true, Neal wasn't jumping for joy the moment he left the prison. He considered it home, he'd made friends, and had found his niche there. It was cooking in the kitchen, but it was constant and steady. He enjoyed working with Serena and talking to her about New York. God, how he missed New York. He missed Peter, Elle, and Moz and the rest of the agents. He missed his life on the island during those few short months when he was a free man.
As he stepped outside, he carried a small bag tucked close to his side. There weren't many personal effects that he'd acquired since he'd been at the prison, but those that he did have, he took with him. Paint supplies, some clothes, and of course the hat. The hat that June had given him the day he'd moved into the guest room in her home.
His reasons for going to the projects still stood strong. Someone needed to infiltrate and leak back information to the others. Neal couldn't lie though. He was curious as to how they lived in the projects. They weren't surrounded by walls and they didn't have constant guards on lookout. Sure, they were strong and some of them had abilities he could only dream to have, but that wasn't the case for everyone.
So, Neal was stepping outside of his life as a reformed man and resuming the role as a con man. Peter would have strapped him down before letting him do this and Moz wouldn't have liked it either. The person he found himself missing the most right in that moment was Alex. She'd be at his side in a moment to work with him. If anyone could pull a better job than Neal, it was her.
He left during the day to at least be free of vampire attacks. It wouldn't help with the zombies, but aside from a few minor run ins along the way, he had a clear path. He'd manage to swipe one of the cross bows before leaving and even if he wasn't efficient with it yet, he learned fast during the first lesson. Any weapon was better than a gun anyway even if he was a good shot. Neal really hated guns.
Arriving at the projects, he stayed back a few minutes to case the building. He made note of the locations of the entrances and windows. How many floors, the number of rooms by the looks of things, and the surrounding buildings. When he was trying to decide how to enter the place, he heard a loud grunt behind him and saw two zombies headed his way.
Neal dashed for the building as quickly as he could, diving beneath a fallen pole, but his leg was caught and he fell to the ground. With the crossbow in his hand, he managed a quick shot at the first one that was on him, but the second came with a vengeance. He fumbled for another arrow, but he didn't think he had enough time to reload.
Maybe this undercover operation wasn't such a good idea after all.
