Through all of the hurtful words that had been flung at the young vampire, nothing hurt as badly as Jack not even saying goodbye to her. She had seen the writing on the wall for a long time. She knew that Ianto's presence was going to change everything. And while Jack couldn't make love to a ghost, he could still love one. He could still be hung up on one. Jess had tried to take the high road, to try and just remain friends with Jack but the selfish bastard hadn't let her, he'd hung on and let her go all at the same time and that was damn confusing to her.
She didn't want to cry. It wasn't dignified and not just because she didn't want to show emotion, she'd shown enough of that in front of everybody. But Jessica Hamby didn't cry normal tears, she cried blood. And ever since the first time she had discovered that, it had disturbed her. It was hard enough being a teenage girl without being a freak of nature on top of that. So she didn't cry. Instead she quietly packed her things, without even saying goodbye to her roommate Gwen who had been nothing but kind to her. But Gwen was Jack's friend and Jess was afraid she might say something she would regret and she had already done plenty of that.
Once her things were packed she took one last walk around the prison. Since Jessica could only be awake during the night hours most people were still asleep in their cells. It was for the best, she didn't want to say any goodbyes. She would be back anyway, especially to see Erica. She paused in front of Erica's cell but the pregnant werewolf was sleeping and Jess didn't want to wake her up.
She walked down to the solitary confinement area and saw the light burning bright in Jack's office. He hardly slept and she wasn't surprised to peek through the bars and see him hard at work at something on his desk. She raised her hand for a minute to knock but then after a minute let her hand fall to her side. This, whatever it had been, was over and she just needed to accept it.
With a sigh she headed back upstairs and saw Connor standing there waiting for her. She still wasn't sure why he had been so kind to her when they didn't even know each other hardly at all but she appreciated his kindness.
"Thanks for taking me," she said. Honestly, she could have walked by herself there and been perfectly fine but she wanted the company.
