"1, 2, 3, 4."
Zoey was counting the last of her bullets for what had to be the hundredth time. It didn't matter how many times she counted them, they always added up to the same meager number. She had barely enough ammunition left to make it through the week with the amount of walkers she had seen shuffling around in front of the cave that had been her home for the past three weeks. Tons of guns and no fucking bullets. Wouldn't that just be the way to go out? She always had her trusty fire axe just in case one of the zombies got a little too close but guns were always a better bet. While it could be said that the noise might attract more of them, Zoey knew she wasn't the only one making a home in those woods.
It had become very clear just how not alone Zoey was three weeks ago when a pair of vampires had broken into the empty home she had been living in. She had barely escaped with her life and still had a scar on the back of her wrist from the attack. The only positive thing that had come out of it was that she had learned to be careful. She had a trip wire at the front of the cave now that quietly stepped over. If she had tripped it, fifteen tranquilizer darts would have gone flying through the air. Zoey wasn't quite sure how strong a tranq dart had to be to take down a vampire. Only time would tell.
With her automatic shotgun strapped to her back she slipped the few remaining shells into her hoodie pocket. Her hands were locked tightly around the red axe. She was going to need to rely on it until she could find more ammo.
Luckily, Zoey knew just the place to find more ammo. Unfortunately, a lot of the gun stores in Everett and it's surrounding towns were picked clean. But during her travels through the woods, usually looking for dinner, she had spotted a strange sort of place. A quick peek through the windows had revealed a plethora of supplies including weapons and food. Zoey was practically salivating thinking about the Snickers bar she had seen inside.
It only took her fifteen minutes to reach the building and she did a quick peek through the window and saw nobody inside. Quietly she slid open the window pane and slipped inside.
