Who: Derek and Faith What: Breaking the news that he's leaving Where: The prison Warnings: Derek's and Faith's language deserve a warning, but otherwise idk
Becoming friends with Faith hadn't been hard. Even back when he had first arrived, back when he had felt like such an outsider that he ended up leaving more often than he stayed in the beginning, it was easy for him and the slayer to just click. They were both survivors. They were both built tough, with sharp and rough edges to their personalities that made them a breed of their own.
Sometimes that was what Derek believed made it easy to hang out with her. It was what made it easy for him to trust her, what made him see her as one of his own to look after. Faith was tough, and he never made the mistake of forgetting it, but Derek was fiercely protective of those in his pack. As far as he was concerned, Faith had been his pack from the moment she'd help him work through problems and rough times by sparring and essentially beating the shit out of each other until they were both feeling better to go on about their day.
All that, that connection, made it difficult to just...tell her that he and the pack would be moving away. He already felt like shit for doing it when Connor had just died, when everyone was still reeling from what had happened and when Dimitri and so many others were moving away, but Derek knew that he had to do it. He'd have to tell everyone to start getting ready to leave soon, and he didn't want her to find out through someone else. He respected Faith more than that. Derek wasn't the most polite or even courteous individual, but he had his own moral code he followed, and just making a post to let her know he was leaving was wrong. He had to talk to her, even if he didn't want to because he actually hated the idea of leaving Faith behind. Every overprotective instinct in him was telling him that he had to convince her to come with them, but he knew he couldn't. She had the prison to look out for, Derek had his pack to keep safe, and...well. That was that, wasn't it?
Once he was done checking the perimeter of the prison, and he ensured that sentry towers were covered, Derek stopped by his office to pick up two bottles of whiskey so he could go see Faith. After everything that had been happening lately, with Connor being turned and his attempt to eat up Everett, Krissy being turned into a werewolf, Abigail being turned into a vampire, him killing Kate, they deserved all the booze in the damn world. Two bottles would barely put a dent into the mess of emotions they were both feeling and trying to ignore, but that was okay. It was a start, and Derek wasn't looking to get drunk, anyway. He just wanted to spend some time with his friend.
"Hey," he greeted as he walked into her office, and closed the door behind him. "I forgot glasses for this, you got some in here or do you wanna be classy and drink it out of the bottle?" There was a shadow of a smirk on his lips as he said it, plopping on a chair and setting the bottles down on the desk.
