The slash across his back hurt causing him to falter briefly and give Connor enough time to pull him closer. It wasn't surprising that he went for it so quickly because this was either going to last until both were out of breath or it would be over in seconds. The latter was the option tonight and it was probably for the best.
He struggled against the hold but didn't fight him off as hard as he normally would have because Dimitri didn't know when he'd get a better chance. There was no danger in any endorphins kicking in to keep him from fighting back, so he waited for Connor to sink his fangs into his neck. He was holding onto his hair which kept one of Dimitri's arms free. During the fight Connor must not have realized it was the hand with the stake.
Only a couple of seconds passed but it seemed like much longer when Connor first started drinking. "There should have been another way to save you." Immediately after the stake plunged into Connor's back.
