"Don't you think you're worth the risk, Dimitri? Go big or go home right?" There was no teasing now. This moment of sincerity was the closest he had been to the man he was before his turning in weeks. Of course he would risk his immortality to try and give it to his best friend. Connor had never had a real friend like Dimitri before. He wasn't ready to let him go.
"Besides, haven't you heard? Vampirism is in this season. All the cool kids are trying it out." It was a dare to try and get under his skin. Connor did indeed have a secret that would surprise the other man. He wanted him to ask, and if he didn't then he may not share it at all. Or he'd use it to twist a knife into that soul he carried, and catch the other man off guard.
"Don't you miss the freedom? We had a blast when the rage hit us. I saw how much you ached to let loose. It's not like it has to be just us. Your Moroi can come along and of course your Rose. I draw the line at your sister. I'm not pissing in her baby daddy's cheerios."
See? Even Connor had a line not to cross, and a smidge of self-preservation. It was a small smidge, but it was there. The risks of the others was worth the reward though. Dimitri would be his or Connor would die trying.
