"Sorry about that radio silence, but I don't feed the trolls under the bridge." Dimitri's voice was level and his expression neutral. If he allowed himself to get worked up then this meeting had the possibility to go horribly wrong. "Besides, I've used that trick myself so I didn't find it very creative." His note to Rose had been a little more personal and perhaps frightening since she'd thought she'd killed him on that bridge, but the effect was mostly the same.
"The fish haven't been biting lately." Only Connor had, he thought but didn't say out loud.
He stood in place and watched Connor from his perch. He was hardly going to jump up and meet him, so it was a matter of who had the most patience. Dimitri had been looking for Connor for weeks while Connor didn't seem to be able to keep still, so Dimitri was mostly confident that he would win that particular standoff. He knew better than to turn his back on him and walk away too.
"How's life been treating you, Connor?" His face was still neutral but the tone had an air of sarcasm added to it. Connor was enjoying himself and Dimitri knew it. Dimitri enjoyed his life as Strigoi at the time too. He knew exactly what Connor was thinking about the promise they'd made to one another before he'd had the same thoughts as Strigoi. He had told Rose that he'd never felt more alive. He'd felt stronger and powerful. He'd felt like the god his students had always referred to him as back at St. Vladimirs'.
