Who: Katherine Pierce What: Katherine feels something for someone besides herself Where: Her home at the brothel When: Tonight Warnings: None
Katherine Pierce had fallen into a schedule. Her day could bring a great many things to her door. There was never any shortage of visitors at her home. It was one of the perks of being one of the more successful business owners in Everett. She would say the most successful but she was certain that Pam was making hand over fist in trade over at Fangtasia and since Fangtasia catered to all species and genders, despite it's disgusting location it was probably a more lucrative business than Katherine's. She could of course cater to women, to humans, to werewolves or whatever else happened upon her lovely little establishment but a house full of bloodwhores would mostly draw the male vampire population out. That was just fine. Pam may be making more but Katherine's home was the loveliest in town and she would take the trade any day. She slept in a luxurious bed, not a coffin in a dilapidated apartment building.
Normally Katherine would be on the other side of the world by now. Even with Elijah at her side she couldn't be reasonably assured that Klaus would not come for her. They had their ridiculous promise to one another. Always and forever. Katherine thought that it was possible Elijah may not take her side if Klaus came for her but it was also possible that he may not. Katherine knew that her small army of loyal vampires may stand up for her but would probably die trying to fight Klaus. Klaus snapping was a problem that haunted Katherine. It was difficult to not think about after five hundred years of running from him. She was hoping that with Rebekah gone, Klaus would soon follow. There was nothing in this town for the originals save for Elijah. She was here for him. She nor Elena could help Klaus with hybrids any longer and he was wasting away in that little cabin with his ridiculous little doggies. Katherine thought Klaus was getting adorable in his old age but she didn't underestimate how dangerous he could be.
It was difficult not to live in fear sometimes because she had lived in fear so long. At any moment Klaus could change his mind and decide that hunting Katerina Petrova through the world would kill some boredom. The only thing that kept Katherine in town was her business. She was one of the most successful women in the apocalypse and she wasn't giving her business up. They would have to pry it out of her cold dead hands. She still had difficulties standing still sometimes as witnessed by Dante after Katherine had fled after losing her superpowers. She had no way to protect herself or her business and neither did any of her associates. Seeing Elijah powerless had been especially taxing. Katherine was a work in progress.
The house was normally quiet during the day and so Katherine tended to sleep during the afternoon. At night the vampires all came looking for their conquests. Not all the vampires in Everett were lucky enough to have daylight rings the way that she and Elijah did. Most vampires were slaves to the night and unless they were staying for some reason, were only able to visit her establishment during night hours. While Katherine did offer a twenty four hour service, her main business hours were during the night time and most of her whores had made the switch to a vampire schedule.
Before bed she would take a tour of the grounds with Ignacio. He had been faithful to her since the very beginning. He was very good at following orders and was fast and strong for someone who had only been a vampire for two years. He was the person she trusted most when it came to the running of his business. While she trusted Dante, she knew that he would always be blinded by protecting the people inside of the establishment. Dante couldn't see the big picture the way that Ignacio could and they balanced each other out well. The two of them would begin in the main house and take a walk through the building. The only part of the building they did not tour was her own private chambers where Elijah was probably already sleeping.
She peeked in on a sleeping Abigail. She was a new vampire and they were often voracious and uncontrollable. While Abigail did display the eating habits of a new vampire, she seemed almost... calmer than she had as a human. As Katherine looked at her she felt a strange sort of maternal stirring inside of her. She wasn't sure if she liked it or not so she shut Abigail's door quickly. Katherine was changing, evolving but she wasn't sure whether she liked the new her or not.
The two of them walked around the grounds and discussed the current day's business. They checked in on Destiny and made another quick check on Abby who was daylocked in her cabin. Katherine didn't want to bother the young vampire but she did take a peek in through the door to make sure nothing was disturbed inside.
"Everything looks good, Ignacio. You may go on break. I'll see you this evening." She gave him a nod as he thanked her and disappeared into the woods. Even loyal servants needed time to themselves every day and Katherine understood that.
Walking back into the building she waved to Dante on the roof before she went back inside the large luxurious mansion that she lived in. Her heels clicked softly on the floor as she made her way back to her own private chambers which were even more exquisite than the rest of the building. Of course she saved the nicest part for herself and for her lover.
Elijah was sleeping and she sat down gingerly on the side of the bed. She studied his profile for a long moment. He could have been an angel sleeping there like he was, looking so peaceful and innocent. He was an original vampire which made him one of the most dangerous creatures on Earth but you couldn't tell from watching him sleep. Something stirred inside Katherine again but it wasn't maternal this time. She reached out and gently brushed some dark hair off of his forehead. He opened his eyes and gave her a slow lazy grin before his arms wrapped around her and he pulled her into the bed with him, her body flush with his.
Katherine looked up at him and in that moment, for the first time in over five hundred years Katherine realized that she was happy.
"I love you," she said. And for the first time? She meant it.
