It hadn't been hard to find someone to take over for his patrols around the prison while he went out to look for Natasha and Clint. He knew that Lissa was right, and that he probably shouldn't be the one to go out to look for them, but he had to. Ever since learning that one of his friends had fallen victim to Connor, Derek's sense of duty was stronger than ever. He needed to do something to help. Walking around the perimeter of the prison wasn't enough anymore, and while he wasn't sure where Natasha and Clint were - or even if something really had happened or if they had just chosen to leave - at least this was something he could do. Something that was more than just standing around. More than just wanting to go out and rip Connor apart after torturing him for a few hours.
Had Connor broken in again? Had he taken them? Had he turned them? Derek wasn't sure, and just the thought made his anger and determination heighten. He wasn't lying when he told Lissa that he would be quick, and he really would just look around in case he could find a hint of anything weird going on, but he at least had to try. Maybe it would make a difference. Maybe it was nothing, and he hoped that was the case, but staying put just wasn't an option.
After he and Pietro loaded up on weapons and ammo, they both headed out while Max stayed in Derek's place guarding the perimeter of the prison. Derek wasn't in a talkative mood, but thankfully Pietro wasn't exactly a chatty person either. Yeah, Derek could have brought someone from his pack, but Laura was still watching over Krissy, and he knew that if he brought out one of his betas with him he'd be too distracted with their safety to focus on anything else even if he knew they were more than capable to take care of themselves. Right now there seemed to be so many fucking threats out and about, and no. No. Derek couldn't fucking deal with someone getting snatched or hurt right under his nose. Not ever, but somehow right now that anxiety felt worse. So much worse, that he didn't even know how to work through it just yet.
Soon they would be gone, though. Soon they would be leaving, Connor just needed to be taken care of, and Derek couldn't wait for that day to come.
Right now he just focused, though. He tried to follow Natasha's and Clint's scent as far as they could, but it got to a point where it seemed to fade. There were other scents mixing together, and Derek paused in mid stride as his brow furrowed.
Pietro, who had been moving along with Derek, paused as well. "...what is it?"
"Nothing, I thought... Never mind."
Except, Derek still didn't move. He could feel someone looking at them, but he couldn't spot where it was coming from.
