"I don't know for sure. Something definitely does feel.. off about this place, but my magic is much different than what probably caused this. I can cause hallucinations, but not ones that manifest into physical form." Not like the maze itself and not like Klaus staking Rebekah. She wasn't sure if she would have been able to make walking, talking ones such as Victor and Caleb either.
Lissa nodded and started back after Rebekah through the maze. She was having a little trouble keeping up but she didn't complain. The faster they were able to find the source of this the faster they'd be out of here.
They kept coming to dead ends and coming back to places Lissa was sure they'd passed already. It was hard to know if they were making any progress at all, but they kept on as quickly as they could. No one had interrupted them yet, but she was certain she was still hearing laughter and whispers around every corner. Lissa fought hard to ignore the whispers and block them out but it was growing more difficult the longer they kept hitting dead ends. If only her ability to regrow plant life could be used in reverse.
"Wait," Lissa said nearly out of breath. She leaned over trying to catch her breath and as she did, she listened with her ears and with her entire being. She had to be able to sense something even if it wasn't her magic. There was nothing for at least thirty seconds except her labored breathing but then her senses stood on full alert and she knew exactly where they needed to be going.
"This way." This time Lissa was leading the way and she felt another surge of adrenaline flow through her veins. She'd need to feed immediately after this entire ordeal, but for now the rush brought them to an opening and in the center was a pedestal with a soccer ball sized ball of pure light hovering over it.
