Who: Tara and Gabriel
What: Tara and Gabriel murder a vampire hunter
Where: Fangtasia to start
When: Tonight
Warnings: violence
Tara was taking the trash out when she felt eyeballs on her. It was late and that was late for vampire time which meant it was early for humans. The bar was winding down for the night. Tara had somebody else watching the bar as she tossed the black plastic bags in the dumpster. It was really just to get it out of the bar. There was no more garbage services. Tara had to lug the bags down to the dump herself and toss the bags in. It was secretly kind of fun because Tara would use her vampire strength to toss the bags in and she would score herself range and trajectory.
She thought she heard someone creeping around in the background and she turned around and put a hand on her hip “Whoever’s out there better come out now before I rip your head off. Stop being a pussy.”
The door slamming shut drew her attention away and she saw some kid that had been hanging around lately. He was handsome so the girls all loved him but he didn’t seem to love the girls or really anyone at all. He just sat and drank by himself. “Hey,” she said to him completely forgetting about the person who was giving her the creeps as Gabriel walked right towards them.
Gabriel had been at the bar all night, opting to not go back to the Inn. They were still coming down from Viktoria having the baby and it was too crowded for him. Kaitlyn understood for the most part, but really, in the end it didn't matter what Kait thought. Gabriel would do what he wanted when it came down to it. But, it was getting late and Gabriel had figured it was time to get back, that most were settled in for the night and as he stepped out, he noticed something, or more importantly, someone.
He remembered a few days ago seeing him. He and Kaitlyn were actually out together during the day, taking one of their walks. He hadn't been feeling well because he hadn't been feeding. Taking from others was easy, but even he'd been hesitant for the most part. He resisted her encouragement of feeding from her - again, until he finally couldn't take it anymore. He fed from her while they were out in the woods, but something shifted, it felt wrong and when he was done, he noticed him.
The same him that was coming toward Tara and he hopped over the railing to get to her. She called out for him, but he didn't say anything, just kept going.
Whoever the guy was was stacked with weapons and pulling a stake out, Gabe's eyes went a little wide. He was human - for the most part, not a vampire, at least not like the ones that hung around her and he wasn't fast. He wasn't a fighter, not like this. Gabriel nearly missed getting a stake shoved into his chest. "What the fuck are you doing?!" Gabriel yelled, but it was like the guy was just blank. "I'm not a fucking vampire." He pointed to Tara. "That's a vampire." He had no problem at all pushing whoever this guy was off on her.
“Oh fuck you, motherfucker!” Tara shouted at Gabriel as he pointed the vampire hunter right at her. And here she could have just up and taken off on this bitch but she stuck around to make sure that he would be okay. Now he was just going to up and sell her down the river like that? Oh man, he was in for a world of pain the next time he came into Fangtasia. His motherfucking ass better pray that she didn’t even tell Pam about this.
The Vampire Hunter threw a silver net at Tara and it burned her skin as it pushed her into the ground. Every time she touched it she hissed and it felt like it was pressing down over her, suffocating her. God she could feel it everywhere but Tara was a fighter, she wasn’t about to give up and this idiot’s plan hadn’t saved his ass exactly either. The hunter was still fighting with him and this vampire wasn’t as strong as she was.
Her fangs popped out and with a burst of strength she threw the silver off of her and vaulted at the hunter. “Run you little punk!” Tara shouted at Gabriel as she wrestled with the hunter down on the ground. He was surprisingly fast and before she knew it she was being stabbed with silver knives. Jesus Lord, that fucking hurt too but Tara gritted her teeth through the pain and kicked him away. He just right on his feet and started racing after Gabriel. That little punk was about to get himself killed. Tara sighed. She could leave him to his own devices but she decided to help instead and ran after the hunter at top speed. They went into the woods and he surprised Tara by turning around and zapping her with a taser.
He didn't want to care what was happening to Tara. He shouldn't, she was a vampire and he knew what they were capable of. They were killers ... monsters and it was easy to just run. But he could hear her .. cursing, but it was much more than that. But he took off anyway and headed toward the woods. He could hear shuffling behind him and then the sound of Tara going down and Gabriel kept quiet, hidden and out of the way as the hunter stalked toward her and pulled her up, hand around her neck. He seemed unbelievably strong and as Tara clawed against his skin trying to get from his grasp, Gabriel noticed a branch, it was pretty thick and he picked it up.
Coming up on him quick, Gabriel whacked him in the back of the head, once, twice, three times and when he turned, he shoved him back with his boot with whatever force he could muster. The impact spilled some weapons on the ground and Gabriel grabbed a gun and kicked more away.
"You okay?" He asked, looking at Tara as he aimed the gun at the hunter. He didn't know why, he didn't care - not at this point. It was wrong of him to leave her behind, even if she was stronger and deadlier.
The hunter moved, taking a lunge toward them and Gabriel pulled the trigger, shooting him in the shoulder.
The hunter didn’t seem to be phased by the bullet in the shoulder. Tara took a step backwards with Gabriel as he turned around and looked at them both through cold dead eyes. “Holy fucking shit,” Tara hissed out under her breath. She should have stayed near the projects. The sun would be up within the house and Tara was going to fry under it’s harsh rays unless she found some cover.
“Hey Gabriel,” he said and he tossed something towards him. Almost on instinct it seemed like Gabriel caught it. At least Tara had a name for it now. But as soon as Gabriel caught it he seemed to be in a lot of pain. What the hell? Tara had to yank the crystal out of Gabriel’s hand. It didn’t hurt her at all but the hunter seemed to think it was funny.
“Don’t try your tricks with me, psychic vampire. I know what you are and what you do. You’re just as bad as the blood suckers,” he said in a dark voice.
Gabriel felt the pain coursing through him as he caught the crystal and he felt some relief when Tara took it from him, but it really only made him more angrier. Looking up at him with dark eyes, he stared him down, even as the hunter laughed at the pain that Gabriel was going through. How did he know though? How did he know about the crystal? He charged for him but Tara pulled him back, shaking her head at him because Gabriel would have probably died going up against this guy. He might have been considered a psychic vampire, but he didn't have the strength of an actual vampire.
The hunter took a chance and came after them this time. His strength knocking Gabe down as he went after Tara. Rolling over, he found his feet and as the hunter was attacking Tara, Gabriel grabbed a knife that was on laid about from when his weapons fell on the ground and he stabbed him in the back and twisted it. Sure, the bullet didn't affect him, but this made him at least stop going after Tara.
Tara used the opportunity to speed up to her feet, grab the hunter’s head with one arm and steady herself on the other shoulder before jerking her entire body to the side. She heard the snap as his neck cracked and split and he slumped over to the ground. Tara’s fangs were still out, excited by the violence of the situation. She tried to reign herself back in but her fangs were still extended as she turned to Gabriel.
“You okay?” she asked him. He was still holding the knife that he used to stun the hunter and for half a second she wondered if he was going to use it on her. A groan from behind her attracted her attention and she realized that the hunter was getting back up. He cracked his neck before smirking at her. Did she really think it was going to be that easy.
“Okay. Time to run.” She grabbed Gabriel’s hand and started pulling him through the woods at top vampire speed. She was basically half carrying him half dragging him before they came to a stop outside a cabin. “I have to get inside before the sun comes up.” She zipped inside before letting him go. “We can wait it out here.” Maybe she lucky and was far enough away from the hunter that he wouldn’t find them again.
Gabriel paced around the cabin. They seemed to have gotten away from the hunter, but there was something different about the guy. He wasn't just a hunter. He wasn't human. It was like he was a monster too which didn't make any sense at all. Tara suggested they wait it out and sure, they could - but he didn't have to. He could leave. She just needed a place stay he guessed. "The sun kills you?" He asked, rolling his eyes and walking over toward her. There were vampires that he knew of that could walk in the sun and some that couldn't. And then there was Frost.
"Have you seen that guy before?" He remembered seeing him the other day with Kait, but it was brief and he didn't really pay it much mind.
Gabriel saw a shadow move across Tara's face and he looked back.
"I don't think we're alone," he said and pulled her back further in the house.
“I don’t recognize him,” Tara said. But she saw tons of people every single night at Fangtasia. She couldn’t possibly be expected to remember them all. She remembered some of them, usually the regulars and her friends obviously. But she didn’t recognize the hunter at all.
“What was the deal with that crystal he threw at you? Psychic vampire?” Tara knitted her eyebrows together and looked up at Gabriel as he pulled her back into the house. He was god damn psychic vampire which she had never even heard of before. She had noticed when they were fighting that he wasn’t physically strong and fast the way that she was. Obviously he was a different kind of vampire than she was.
She stepped in front of him waiting for the hunter to come in. Tara wasn’t like the other vampires. Most of them wouldn’t give a shit if Gabriel lived or died. But living that way was part of why they all hated vampires so fucking much. Tara didn’t want to be like the rest of them. She was different.
Glass shattered as the hunter jumped in through the window. The sunlight threatened Tara at every turn and she had to move quickly to dive out of it’s harmful way.
Gabriel pulled her back. He didn't need her to protect him. She'd already done enough and it wasn't like it worked anyway. He found them. He looked back at her and told her to stay because the sun was harmful on her. Bending over, he picked up a large shard of glass, he wasn't going to hesitate and as the hunter climbed in through the window, he could hear Tara beside him. The sun was threatening to swallow her whole, but he didn't push her back again.
The hunter laughed and Gabriel wondered if this was it. There was no way he could just say goodbye to Kait, and he hadn't been paying attention at all, he was probably open, she probably knew he was in trouble.
But then something flashed, almost blinding him for a second.
"Tara, the necklace around his neck, it just flashed," he whispered and Gabriel charged for him, stabbing him in the stomach only to get lifted in the air for his troubles and tossed against the wall. He fell and landed on a table before landing on the floor.
Tara grabbed the necklace without hesitation and smashed it against the counter. The thing smashed easily under the pressure of her strength. As soon as the piece of metal was destroyed, the hunter began to turn black. Little bits of him turned black, like ash spreading through his neck and then his head and his hands and arms and before long he was turning into ash and crumbling to the floor.
She collapsed against the wall and tossed the crushed amulet to the floor. “What the fuck was that thing?” Gabriel shrugged at her. Neither one of them had ever seen anything like it before Maybe Pam or Nora or Eric would know about it.
“I can’t go back out until sunset. Will you wait out the day with me?” she asked. She wasn’t usually so nice about things but he really had no reason to babysit her all day. Tara didn’t have time to go to ground but she could try digging around in the basement. But Gabriel nodded that he would stay so the two of them, tired and weary found two bedrooms upstairs right next to each other. If either of them shouted the other would surely hear it. Tara hit the mattress and fell asleep almost immediately.
