Who: Kaitlyn and Gabriel borrowed with permission What: Kait draws a picture When: Now Where: Her room at The Inn Warnings: Nope
It was just sheer luck that Gabriel had to be out that day. He probably wasn't out of network range but he was out of psychic range. Kaitlyn tested the waters by calling for him a few times but he hadn't answered. As much as she worried about him being out there, she was glad for a little private time with her own thoughts. She felt selfish because she was worried about Gabriel out there. She knew that things were better between them since the rift that the rage virus and her shouts for her ex boyfriend to come save her had come between them. One nice thing about being psychically linked was it almost impossible to hide things from each other and when Kait had forced Gabriel to drink her energy both of their walls came tumbling down and he was able to see pure Kaitlyn. He was able to see that her feelings for him were strong and true and while she missed Rob and his golden light it wasn't any more than she missed Anna or Lewis.
But Gabriel was Gabriel. They were getting along for now but he would always be the shadowy outcast, determined to play that role even in a house full of people that accepted him for what and who he was. He could be out there getting into trouble. He could be draining psychic energy from zombies which was slowly killing him or he could even worse yet, find some other poor girl to sap the energy from. Gabriel could safely feed on Kait's energy because her psychic abilities were strong enough to handle him. Most people, even psychics, didn't have strong enough minds to stop Gabriel from overpowering them and draining them completely. Even if Gabriel didn't want to hurt someone, he easily could and had in the past.
She was lounging in their bed, letting the sun stream in through the windows and warming her up. It was cold outside, really cold but the sunlight was warm and Kait stretched out like a cat enjoying her quiet time. Just when she closed her eyes and thought about taking a nap her hand began to itch and cramp. She sighed. "Not now." There was no fighting the instinct to draw and while she could be lazy and lay in bed and draw in her mind, it was easier if she had art supplies to actually draw the physical picture. The cramp in her hand wouldn't go away so she sighed and rolled out of bed towards a small table by the window. She grabbed her sketchbook along with her colored pencils and began to sketch.
She grabbed pastel neutral colors. Light pinks and eggshell and shimmery purple, taupe. Her hand worked furiously, trying to relieve some of the itch as she drew a strange angular shape on the paper. At first she thought she drawing snow on a mountain shimmering in the sun but as she began to fill in the colors, horror slowly closed in on the redhead. This wasn't a mountain with snow, this was a crystal. Once she was done she held the paper away from her so she could get a better look. It wasn't quite the right color but it looked like the crystal that The Fellowship used and not the kind of dark crystal that Mr. Zetes had used on Gabriel and the other dark psychics. This was a light crystal, she could tell just by the purity of it and the color. Mr. Zetes crystal had strange crystal tumors growing out of it but this crystal didn't have anything like this.
The horror faded away as Kaitlyn studied it. There was something else. Her hand hurt and usually after she drew a picture like this the ache ebbed away. She didn't know quite what to draw but she closed her eyes and let her hands do the work for her. When she opened them there were words scrawled across the top of the picture in ugly black pencil. The words were not in English and for all the psychic powers in the world, Kaitlyn only spoke one language and this one wasn't it. It didn't look like Spanish or French either. She wasn't sure what it was.
She tore the picture free from her sketchbook and walked over to the bed. Plopping down on it she stared at it good and hard for a long time. What did it mean? Kaitlyn was going to see this crystal at some point but what about the words? She had never done anything like that before.
Kaitlyn? What's wrong?
Kaitlyn suddenly snapped back to reality. She had been so wrapped up in the drawing that she hadn't sensed Gabriel coming back into her mind. Quickly she hid the picture in her nightstand drawer and slammed up her psychic walls.
Nothing. I just stubbed my toe. It's okay though. I'll see you when you get back.
