Lucien nodded. "One of them, yes." He sighed. "Although, deceit is not my way. You could say Cas and I are on different sides... such as sides are these days." He gestured at the night scene past the prison fences with his glass. "With all that's going on around here, I wouldn't be surprised to see more of us showing up. The nemeton, people back from the dead, Azzy has another kid... the list doesn't seem to stop, does it?"
He chuckled. "Well, a little showing off encourages belief, yoy know? A little belief and a bottle of good bourbon is easy. Give me a few thousand believers and you'd be surprised what one of us can do." His smile turned a little wry. "I draw the line at rabbits out of hats though."
Finishing his glass, he poured himself another. "Probably a morning and an afternoon flight. She has a lot of potential. Hate to lose that. I did offer to help her straighten things out once. Even though we had a good enough time when I took her to the beach once, I think she's still put off by who I work for."
Lucien stared into his drink for a few seconds before taking a healthy swallow. Act or not. Wasn't that always the question for one of the fallen? If he gathered allies and made a run for the top, he might fail. Or Lucifer might step down. Beliel was a follower and not a leader and wouldn't be much of a problem. There was a reason even Michael and Lucifer and the rest of the first rank didn't call him second rank. He could have been one of the firsts if he'd pushed for it. But for eons, he'd been content to follow orders. The one time he had questioned authority he'd been cast out for his temerity. As Lucifer him had been cast out for questioning.. everything.
