Erik shook his head, he didn't want to hear it. The doctor often loved to bring up the fact that it was his fault that his mother had died, telling him that if he had really loved her he would have moved the coin that day. That meant it had to be real. If she was truly alive, wouldn't they have used her against him again? The masked man was a liar, this had to be part of his game.
"You are trying to confuse me," he accused the masked man, not a little proud that he had figured out the rules of the game. "It won't work."
His fists clenched as he refused to answer. He didn't hear anything but that irritating ticking sound and felt a hint of triumph. This was the best the man could do? Pretend that his mother was alive and hope Erik would fall for it? Hmpf. He was young, not stupid. He almost went ahead and gloated that he still didn't hear anything when he heard footsteps outside of the door.
Erik?
No. That was impossible. He was there, he'd seen it! He glared at the mask man, face hard but his eyes wide with vulnerability. "This is the trick! That is not her voice, you are using another woman!"
Nein, Erik, ich bin es.
He shook his head furiously. It's wasn't her, they were both liars. "Stop it! If it is her, then why is she behind the door?"
