Who: Rose and Open
What: Experiencing death all over again.
Where: Outside the cabin she's been staying in with Damon and Stefan.
Warnings: Some violence, pain.
New Year's Day passed, for the most part, without incident. Earlier on, Rose had the unpleasant experience of running into some undead with an appetite for human flesh. As much as she felt horrible about it, she disabled them and finished them off without too much of a fight. In this world, as it always was, one had to survive or be killed. She felt bad for the former humans turned into flesh fiends, but she'd been lucky enough to live again-as alive as a vampire could be anyway-and she was not going to give that chance up. She owed Bonnie and the people she cared for on this side too much to give it up easily. She had a chance and she was not going to waste it no matter how sad she felt for the zombies and their victims. Though, she did buried the deformed bodies, offering the poor souls of the damned a respectful end before she started back towards the cabin she'd been sharing with the Salvatore brothers.
Rose chose to keep at a human's pace on her return, savoring in the remaining beauty found in the forest and foliage along the way. Her pale hands skimmed the spiky branches of bushes and the remaining crunchy leaves still clinging to some of them. Rose would never take such a simple gesture like touch and feel for granted ever again. It had to be the millionth time since her return to this world that she thanked the young witch who'd sacrificed it all of this chance. Her gift of life to all the ghosts was an immeasurable act of kindness and she doubted anyone would ever forget Bonnie Bennett or what she had done. Rose never would. Her first round with life had not given her a chance to meet the infamous Bennett witch and in this time, she had again missed her chance except for the sheer luck of having to get to see her, a glimpse, before she'd moved through the portal and her eyes found Damon, bleeding on the ground, Alexia by his side.
Her concern shifted to the elder Salvatore and she'd walked through on the whim to save him. Perhaps, if he had not been there, she wouldn't have left the other side. Death was meant to be permanent except in the case of vampire blood infiltrating the system and Rose accepted hers. If Damon had not been in dire straits, she would have walked away and shook her head at Bonnie, but it was not the case. To Rose, her life was not worth the death of someone who could do so much good in this life; fate held other plans and here she was...a vampire again with a second chance. A bloody second chance. She swore to herself, to Bonnie, she would do the best she could with it. "I am sorry, Bonnie," she said out loud to no one, a stray squirrel maybe or a broken branch were her only audience. "I wish I could-" She was steps away from the cabin, maybe another few feet, when a strike of pain, pain she'd never forget, shot through her enough to send Rose to her knees. It ripped her apart. The sweat beaded on her forehead and she felt feverish, ill, in which no vampire should ever feel. The exception? A werewolf bite. No, she hadn't been bit. She hadn't been...bit.
Tears sprung to her eyes and she started to cry. "How...?" she trailed off and suddenly a hand went to her chest, clenching at the place where her heart would normally beat. "Ah!" She let out a yelp. It felt like a stake...a stake to her heart.
