Who: Marlene and Dory What: The killing curse is a real bitch When: Noon Where: Their cabin Warnings: Voldemort and Death Eaters get plenty of warnings
The two witches had started off the new year right. They toasted each other, their old friends and families, and the witch that had given her life so that they could have theirs. They spoke of the past and what they'd seen over the years. Marlene thought of her dear friend Lily Evans and the son of hers and James that had inherited the war they'd all fought alongside one another. There was tragedy and heartache, but there was also room for happiness. Somewhere out there Lily and James' son lived on for them. Marlene toasted her departed friends and promised to honor their memories. She toasted her husband who had dueled so gallantly. So skilled that it had taken multiple Death Eaters to take him and his brother. She missed him dearly.
Leaving the pub after midnight, they eventually made it back to their cabin and Marlene was right sloshed. The Muggle drink Sirius had told them about ages ago certainly had a different effect than firewhiskey. She wasn't blubbering about, but she felt lightheaded once they reached their home and she retired to her bedroom quickly. Dory had always been a bit more adventurous than Marlene back in their first lives but the eagle knew how to have a grand time. It was a new year and she wasn't going to waste the chance to celebrate. There was much to celebrate.
For as much of the strange drink she'd had the night before, Marlene was grateful to wake up with all of her wits about her. A bit later than she normally would have liked, but it could have been worse. Dory was still asleep, so she prepared herself something to eat and let her mind wander. She felt as if she should be reaching for her wand, but it was no where to be found. She'd died with it in hand, but it was long gone now. Diagon Alley seemed half a world away and impossible to go to without the help of magic. Marlene was a skilled witch, but her wand had been a part of her and her tool of magic.
The robe she wore was something that had been inside the cabin when they found it and she wrapped it around herself as she stood and took her cup to the sink. Dory emerged from the bedrooms then and she smiled at her. Out of the two of them Dory had more to drink last night and Marlene wondered if the lion was up to her old standards yet.
