Rogue wasn't entirely sure if she did have control over her dreams, but she was willing to try if she could finally put an end to the nightmares she was having. She let out a slow breath and took Isabel's advice to concentrate on something else. There was one place that immediately came to mind and even though she had lost people she loved from there, in her mind, it was still her home. Rogue pictured the Xavier school perfect and whole, like it had been on the day she was first taken there by Scott and Ororo. She could clearly picture it but the landscape stubbornly stayed the same around them.
She didn't know if she wasn't concentrating hard enough or what but nothing seemed to change. Rogue looked questioningly at Isabel but didn't stop trying. Maybe it was too big of a change? The thing she seemed to have changed before was the weather, it was a good place to start as anywhere else. The summer in Westchester was something they usually all had looked forward to with a lake on school grounds. Rogue closed her eyes this time around and remembered what it felt like to stand outside then, bare feet on lush green grass, the warmth of the sun on her face, the occasional cool breeze blowing through her hair whenever Ororo felt generous enough to create one for them...
For a moment, Rogue felt it all like she was back at the school. Her eyes fluttered open and her breath hitched when she was standing on the familiar lawn. It wasn't the first time her mind wandered to the school but it was the first time she'd felt like she was back there. Before she could take a step forward, though, the scenery flickered in and out of focus and shifted back to the deserted highway. "God damn it," Rogue muttered under her breath, both disappointed and frustrated. At least she now knew she could take control, partial control, of her dreams, if she became aware it was a dream.
