Kurt was pretty bummed that Nathan had moved out. He knew it had nothing to do with him but he really liked his roommate and the dynamic they had and he wasn't quite ready to lose that yet. At least he still had Rachel and Krissy and all his other friends here with him. Hopefully there wasn't some winter bug that was causing the people he cared about to run off and change species or something. Unfortunately with the morose feeling taking over the room he couldn't exactly bask in the festivity like Blaine wanted.
If Rachel was still sick he would have been completely useless but at least she was herself again. They were all going to be okay for another year. The worst part about that though? Was that beneath all of his strong exterior... he kind of hoped that was the end. Never would he tell someone that he felt this way but he did. Sometimes he wondered if there wasn't a person in Everett who didn't hope the end would finally come at least once in a while. It was hard living every day like it was your last... screw all those ridiculous songs that made it sound so liberating. It was terrifying. Draining.
He had pulled out some of his brooches and they used them for the dinky little excuse for a tree. He was living in a Charlie Brown special or something but he didn't feel that fuzzy warmth. He just felt...ugh. Still, when Blaine looked over he shook himself from his thoughts and smiled like nothing was wrong. He could never let that face slip, even with Blaine now, he couldn't reveal that he was anything other than his peppy old self. It put a distance between them that he hadn't quite expected knowing that he didn't feel comfortable showing his true face anymore. How could he lump his issues and crises on Blaine when the man looked like he might break under his own? but how could they have a relationship while Kurt bottled everything to protect him?
"I'm sure there's tinsel in the supply closet." he waved his phone demonstratively with a little smile "Penny was just saying she pulled out a bunch of decorations. They're even going to have real trees so maybe we can think of this like...a practice run." that was as close as he'd get to not approving. He didn't want to tip the scale into the negative feelings but he didn't approve.
The tree was small and weak and it was nothing like them.
