Kurt couldn't help a little laugh "I bet there's a story there. I was madly in love with Finn before he ended up being my step brother. Now I don't think I could look at him that way ever again" he grimaced theatrically but he didn't realize that Rogue might already know that. That Finn had been his hero by stopping the other jocks from bullying him and he'd translated that thankfulness into a crush. Almost literally he suffocated Finn with his affections until the guy broke and then they finally were able to be brothers. If their parents hadn't gotten married they never would have been given this chance.
Very recently Kurt had been one of those people who was wandering around and, on occasion, starving. He depended on running into groups that had food and could protect him so that he didn't have to hide from threats. He didn't talk about it a lot since he was happy to be where he was and he didn't want anyone's pity...but it had been rough on the road for him. At least now he was prepared. If he was going to go out he had his sai and he knew how to use them pretty effectively.
"It's not selfish to complain." he assured her, but in his mind he continued saying 'there just isn't a point to doing it. Complaining won't save us.'
