He couldn't sleep. Ethan spent a hot, uncomfortable night tossing and turning in his bed. It was the Initiative. At first he hadn't wanted to believe that they'd come for him but all of the signs were there. The sudden influx of government types. They were spread throughout the forest in various cabins not to mention the platoons of soldiers probably camped out behind the walls of Stark's army base. After a decade he'd escaped and left a trail of bodies in his wake. Did he really think that they would let him go so easily?
"I won't go back there." He stalked through his house, pacing as though he were already back in a cell. The stench of decomposing demons and backed up toilets, the feel of grit beneath his fingernails from efforts to mark his time on the walls, the oppressive heat and the bone rattling cold, on the brink of starvation only to be given old, spoiled food and eating it anyway just to spend hours vomiting it back up. Ethan had spent ten years in Hell. The torture was nothing compared to the confinement and being estranged from his magic. But he wasn't that pathetic creature anymore. His magic had returned slowly, a drop at a time until he had enough to make his escape and it had been building ever since. The awakening of the nemeton was just was his power needed to fill him all the way up.
If the Initiative thought that they could contain him now - they were terribly mistaken. He would kill them first. Obviously they weren't ONLY in Everett for him. They would take over the town. Turn it into one giant facility. There were witches here, magic users, demons, vampires, werewolves. Every one of them would become experiment fodder. As far as Ethan was concerned the people of Everett were already as good as dead. That didn't mean their lives would end for no reason. He would make it count. He would make sure that the Initiative never attempted another takeover.
He raced through his cabin, throwing supplies into a bag and slamming the door shut behind him hard enough to split the frame. He would leave Everett - but not before burning it to the ground. With a wave of his hand and a few words his cabin burst into flames behind him.
