Allison brought it all home for him. Not only did he know a Jess back home very well and flinched at the idea of losing her perky personality to anything...especially a hell God. But he also knew about loss in general. He hadn't gotten through his years at the ARC without his fair share of loss. If there was something he could do to keep anyone else from having to die...he wanted to do it. Even if these people at the prison weren't as close to him as anyone back in London, he still cared about them. He cared about people.
He wanted to apologize to her about her friend or say anything at all but instead he caught himself looking down at the handheld and nudging the buttons absently without pressing them. He'd been working so hard at getting this stuff together but he hadn't really given the implications of it...of him being here much thought at all. It was time to step up, after all it was on him now.
Instead of saying anything, he sat in silence and fiddled with the device like it was a toy.
