Who: Kurt and Rachel, cameo by Josh What: Kurt wakes up. When: After midnight tonight, the wee hours of tomorrow morning Where: Infirm Warnings: none
Kurt had been asleep since Friday. He'd had a short period of dreams and then after Isabel visited he fell off into a deep dark nothing. It didn't bother him since he wouldn't remember anything about it, unlike the people that were waiting for him to wake up. It wasn't like he didn't want to wake up when he could but he'd never felt so empty and drained in his entire life. Even when he'd found himself starving on the road or waiting for his dad to get better and wanting to be anything but conscious he hadn't felt as empty as he had in this experience. That was to be expected he just wasn't exactly sure why...Isabel's explanation had come when he was so in and out of consciousness that he didn't have a great grip on what exactly did happen. He just knew it had something to do with Rogue and it was an accident.
It was early in the morning when he finally awakened to the area around him. Sounds and smells came to him first, his eyes were still shut and the first thing he consciously knew was that Rachel was there with him. The familiar scent of her from their long hug and cuddle pile the night she arrived was all around him. That's when he noticed something else...the sound of her voice. At first he thought she might be singing but it wasn't that. It was something else. She was praying. He wanted to roll his eyes...when his dad was in the hospital in his own coma all of his friends had banded together in an effort to pray for him. That's all they could talk about, praying for Kurt's dad, and he couldn't have been more against it. Kurt had turned his back on God when he lost his mother and when he realized that the world was full of cruel people who would condemn him in God's name because of how he was born. As far as he was concerned he didn't want to worship a God even if there was one. But in that time he'd also realized that people do what they have to do to feel helpful and to accept what was going on around them. He'd even gone to church with Mercedes and got a chance to wear a perfect feathered cap.
The memories of those times comforted him as he rustled in the bed, feeling the long sleep weighing him down like a heavy blanket. But that wasn't the only thing weighing him down...there was actually a huge weight on his chest. His hand reached up absently and instead of finding anything he expected, his hand buried in something really soft like an animal. A cat. He knew who it was before he even opened his eyes to look...it was Mycroft's fat cat, Elinora. He finally forced himself to crack open an eye enough to see Rachel and murmured with gravelly tone of recent sleep "Rachel Berry...that had better not be you praying for me. You know how I feel about that." But it was in good nature, he smiled and she'd know that he was playing with her. His eyes felt disgustingly crusty but he could tell that she looked like a mess, too. Just how long had he been out?
The moment Kurt spoke, Josh who had been standing nearby keeping an eye on everything rose a brow in shock and rushed over to take his vitals. Everything seemed normal and he whispered "Welcome back to the land of the living" under his breath before he looked up at Rachel, nodded, and left the room to give them privacy. Kurt should be fine.
