Who: Derek and Lydia What: Reuniting after the weekend raid When: Forward dated to when the raiders get back from their trip Where: Prison's entrance/sentry towers to begin with Warnings: Fluff (yes, you read that right)
Even if the majority of the week Derek had wished he could be anywhere but in the prison, his argument with Laura still a heavy presence in his mind the majority of the time, by the time he and Cora were actually away Derek found himself actually...missing Everett.
It hadn't taken him long to figure out that it wasn't really Everett what he missed, though. While he and Lydia didn't spend every minute of every day together, they still managed to find at least a few minutes for each other whenever possible. It probably didn't help that, after the week he had spent as Dick Roman's lab experiment, Derek would find some way to see Lydia for more than just a few minutes at a time. Then, considering the week they had spent in California together... To say that he was used to at least seeing Lydia for a few minutes every day was a major understatement.
Still, he was supposed to be on the raid to work, and he did. He focused as he was supposed to, and he worked like he was supposed to, and thankfully Cora was there with him so it made it easier to actually be a part of the group rather than managing to go off on his own as his lone wolf tendencies would normally dictate. The days away somehow managed to feel somewhat eternal, though, and Derek found himself starting to get anxious to get back. Damn it, what if something had happened at the prison? Would the range on the radios work and actually alert them? What if some new threat had popped up, and what if Lydia...
Thankfully Cora somehow managed to pull him out of his own thoughts before he got too far into them. It wasn't rare for him to go quiet and become antisocial - if anything, that was usually his normal setting - but Cora still knew him better than most. She knew when her big brother needed a nudge before he began brooding more than usual, and considering the events of the past week, they both seemed to be careful to not let each other retreat to some dark corner of their minds.
The weekend was over and done with, and now it was time to go back. All the new supplies had been loaded, and Cora's new friend was talking to her about something that Derek didn't really feel like listening to, so he busied himself with just focusing on the road ahead. As if somehow that would make the distance grow smaller at a faster pace. Somewhere in the middle of the drive he determined that he would probably be faster if he got out and ran the rest of the way, but he didn't. He just stayed seated, looking out the window in silence.
That was, at least, until they pulled up at the gate. Derek technically didn't have to get out there; technically he should have probably waited until they were somewhere inside of the prison, but seeing Lydia in one of the sentry towers caught his attention immediately. She was smiling at him, which immediately caused a smile of relief tug at his lips as well, and he didn't even realize that Peter had said something to him until he noticed he and Cora were staring at him. "...what? Oh. Uh, I don't... Can you guys take care of unloading-- I'll be there in a minute."
Without waiting for an answer, Derek got out of the truck and began walking towards Lydia's tower. Well, maybe it wasn't really walking. It was possibly sprinting so he could get enough momentum in order to leap up to where she was, his enhanced speed and reflexes making it look like a quick and fluid motion.
It still didn't seem like fast enough, but suddenly Lydia was there, right in front of him as he finally arrived to where she was, and Derek Hale found himself actually smiling. Smiling in a way that only Lydia Martin seemed to inspire him with the way that she was staring at him. He should have said something, he could probably at least say hi, but instead he broke the distance between them and framed her face in his hands as he kissed her lips. If someone would have ever told him in Beacon Hills that Lydia would one day be his girlfriend, that she would own a piece of the heart he never even realized worked anymore, he would have scoffed and been incredulous. It couldn't have been possible, not just because of how they used to be, but because Derek just hadn't been interested in relationships with anyone. Everyone around him always got hurt, the ending was always painful and bloody, and why would he even want to attempt it?
As they kissed, it was as if she somehow pushed away those thoughts long enough to make him remember what it was like to be happy. It showed in the way that he smiled at her as he pulled back just enough to see her, one arm looping itself around her waist as he brushed his thumb over her cheek with his free hand. "Hey, beautiful," he said quietly, his gruff and serious tone softening around the edges for her. He would get out of there in a moment so she could work, but damn it he just needed to kiss her. He didn't even care if others were watching, right now Lydia was more important.
