Who: Emily, Laura, Toby, and Alison
What: Saving the girl. Kinda.
When: Tomorrow (Thursday)
Where: The wilderness
Warnings: Character death. Kinda.
The grief had been palpable inside the prison walls for the longest time and while Emily knew that life there would never be exactly the way it was before the Leviathans showed up, people seemed to be trying to get back to their usual routines. Nothing was ever the same after someone died no matter how much you wished it could be. She tried to help out with shifts where she could and volunteer for extras or fill in doing some of the other job duties. She spent time with her friends and was thankful to have gotten thing resolved with Spencer. Emily hated when they fought because when they did it was also vicious.
After a while though Emily wanted to get out of the prison for a few days because after staying cooped up in there for so long she was starting to get a little stir crazy. Before the town seemed to explode from the inside out she'd been going to Laura and Logan's kind of regularly, so it had been strange not spending that time there with them. Laura agreed to pick her up and she packed up a bag and left that afternoon.
Even though Laura was one of the most different people she'd met in her entire lift, Emily felt one hundred percent comfortable and at ease with her. Logan was the same. They were who they were and there were no false pretenses or second guessing their thoughts. Emily and her friends had lived their lives back in Rosewood second guessing everyone and sometimes each other or themselves. Laura didn't know her entire past and neither did she about hers, but they knew enough. A funny body swap where she had to learn to control retractable claws and strength had turned into friendship which had turned into something else entirely.
They hung out for the first night and Emily helped gather some food the next morning so that they could cook something for dinner that night. When they first started meeting to train, Laura had helped Emily learn how to survive off the land. It hadn't been about just protecting herself physically from an attacker but from the elements too. The really fun stuff started later though and they practiced sparring. Or rather Laura tossed around a few moves and Emily worked to keep up.
She was getting better though and that afternoon they were out back behind the cabin while Logan was off hunting. Laura wasn't showing her anything new but mostly going over moves she'd already learned. Repetition seemed to be the key. One time she even managed to punch Laura in the face. The urge to apologize was strong, but she'd learned a long time ago that she couldn't hurt her.
Emily smirked and took her stance with her arms tight and her body ready to make a move. She might not have been able to swim, but she was still an athlete at heart and soaked up all of the training she could get.
