"You really know how to take an analogy and run with it, don't you?" Destiny gave her a reassuring smile. She walked over to a small white dome and picked it up for Fred to see.
"Do you know what this is?" she asked the ghost. Destiny plugged the dome in and turned it on. It sounded like a small fan was blowing but the sound of it filled up the room. "White noise machine," Destiny explained. "People use them cause they're calming. They help you reach a meditative state. A lot of people used to use them for falling asleep. What most of those people don't know is we use these to communicate with the dead. It's a frequency that the dead can actually speak on. Sometimes it can be their only mode of communicating with humans."
She reached over and flipped the white noise machine off. "Static is white noise. I listen in the static for the dead and you were there, you weren't just there you were the white noise. Don't you see how important you are? You can give the dead a voice."
She walked back over to where Fred was wishing she could touch the other woman but knew it was impossible unless she went into a dream state and Fred invaded the dream.
"You feel hollow because you are hollow. It's a feeling that will follow you forever. It's your cross to bear. You think there is no place in this universe for you but you're wrong. You weren't replaced by that creature that took over your body. You were a doorway. You still are."
