Katherine couldn't believe herself when she had agreed to fight on one of the teams to take out the leviathans. The creatures had severely hampered her business and had threatened her more than a few times. They had kidnapped her friends or what was passing for friends when you were Katherine Pierce and had generally made it clear that they were unstoppable. Normally, Katherine would have been on the first ride out of town. She didn't make it a habit to stick around when the going got tough. She had spent so long running that finally standing still for a little while felt strange and scary. It might have been the apocalypse but Katherine finally had a life. She was the new wealthy upper class. She had her business which was extremely lucrative in goods and services. Klaus had given her her freedom, had even saved her life from that fire at Fangtasia. Katherine finally had a life and the leviathans were threatening to take it from her. That was ultimately why she had agreed to fight with Dante and Azazeal. She had watched Dick wipe the floor with Dante but Katherine was rather confident in Azazeal's abilities.
That didn't mean that there wasn't a Plan B. There was always a Plan B. She had chosen Ignacio, one of her trusted staff members to abandon the house and wait for her in the truck. Her movements would be traced on the GPS of her phone. The minute she signaled him he would be there with the truck and they would be long gone before anyone was ever the wiser. Katherine didn't want to run, she didn't want to leave Everett but she would. In a heartbeat she would leave them all behind to fend for themselves while she ran. If she thought that maybe Elijah would come with her she would ask but she knew where his loyalties would always ultimately lie. She handed Ignacio the keys and waved him off before she walked back out into the sitting room.
She was surprised to see Elijah standing there. For a minute she stood there but then a smile broke out over her face. "What a pleasant surprise." It was a surprise actually. Katherine didn't expect to see Elijah until after the fight. She was of course expecting other vampires to come and get their fill before they went off into battle. She didn't think Elijah would be one of them. She thought he would be with his siblings. But perhaps they had all found time to sneak off with their own lovers. Assuming anyone could love them.
Walking over to him she wrapped her arms around the back of this neck and looked up at him through her eyelashes. She pressed her mouth to his gently before she pulled away again. "I didn't think you would come."
