Who: Peter Burke (Narrative)
what: A letter he can't send
When: now
Warnings: Nah.
Dearest Elizabeth,
You have no idea how much I wish there was a way I could send this to you. Alright, you do. Because I know you've written plenty of these of your own that you wished you could send to me. I miss you so much, Elle. I believe we made the right decision in New York, but it doesn't make being without you any easier. Things are getting bad here. Worse than I could have expected, and selfishly, as much as I miss you, I'm relieved to know you are safe in Canada. I hope the short one isn't driving you too crazy, and that you're keeping an eye on Diana, June and Jones.
I wish I could tell you things were alright with Neal, but that would be a lie. Hon, I don't know what to do for him. He's become involved with a young woman here. Yes, another brunette girl with a penchant for finding trouble. She's a good girl, but she's suffered one too many losses and she's not handling it well. Instead of staying here and allowing those who care about her help her through it, she's taken off. It's more dangerous where she's gone than here, and of course Neal followed her out.
This feels so damn familiar. Every time I think he's going to be okay, he gets intertwined with some beautiful brunette girl and loses sight of what is best for him. I don't know how to bring him back, Hon. I don't know how to help either of them, and I can't help but think you'd have better luck reaching both of them than I have. We've lost a couple of kids here, Elle. Kids shouldn't be dying while the adults get to live. None of this is right, and if I'm honest, I'm waiting to hear that the next fallen is Neal or Shannon.
I need to save him, but I don't know how. Not when she's the one he's following, and she's leading him straight into the heart of darkness. I miss you, Elizabeth. I need you, and I miss you, but I thank God every night that you're safe.
Love,
Peter.
