"I need you to keep me from running off. Just make sure I stay in this chair. Can you do that?" she asked him. But she knew that he could and he would. He would do anything right now to stop what Dick and his followers were doing to Everett. The people they were hurting, the people they were killing. A cat seemed a small thing to sacrifice but the only way that this was even possible was because Vera had died. It was a sad truth.
"The first time I met you I read your palm. Do you remember what I said?" She stared at him intently until he was forced to meet her eyes. "Immortals life lines are always the same. Not vampires, obviously but the rest of you? There's a curve because there is no end to your lives. At least most of you. But your heart line was curved too."
Daringly she reached out and grabbed his hand and turned it over as she stroked her index finger over the line on his hand. With that she smiled softly and curled his fingers closed. She held her hand there for a minute.
"I've never seen that before."
The oven timer went off just then and she stood up. She grabbed the bottle of wine off of the counter and unpopped the cork before taking another long swig. Still not drunk enough. She put an oven mitt on and pulled the pie out of the oven. It smelled just about as good as it was going to taste. Destiny grimaced but put the pie on the counter to cool. The oozing red stuff inside of it bubbled a little bit.
