"You did her a great service. She died before her purity could be tarnished. She died with her soul untainted. Does that not bring you peace?"
Caleb wasn't going to leave. Oh no. Not when this one so desired to pay for her sins. It was written all over her. She was suffering, but not enough. Even she was aware that she had not suffered even remotely what she should be.
Of course what Caleb would want her to suffer for was entirely different than what Lissa believed she owed penance for. The outcome was all the same, so it made no difference to Caleb. Leaning against the wall, he watched her with curious eyes. The young vampire was all twisted up in knots. Someone needed to untangle her.
"Did you watch her death? Could you feel her fear? Smell it even, given you have those demonic senses?" Caleb's tone was full of accusations. She had done this, and they both were aware of it. This was hers to carry, and he would ensure she did so.
"That sister of yours did. Never looked away. Shame when she dies she won't be one of the pure and untainted."
