The days were becoming long for Azazeal and he was growing tired of the continuous threats and words tossed around for show. He rarely understood those who claimed to want to rule the world or control those in it. Their reasons seemed empty and petty at best. Thinking back on his earlier years, Azazeal wondered how this world would have fared if he had produced an heir that brought on the End of Days decades or centuries ago. What would have happened if Malachi had been successful? These zombies certainly wouldn't be plaguing the earth. Whenever he saw another threat rise up to claim the prize he or she thought they deserved, his mind entertained pursing what he was always meant to do.
However, when he and Viktoria were in bed and he watched her sleeping with a protective hand on top of her swollen stomach, those thoughts drifted away into obscurity. Their child wasn't meant to live in a world such as the one the other fallen and even some of his other brothers wished to bring. The zombies would perish and humanity would rise again, of that he was most certain. He'd witnessed so many cycles of death, destruction, and then victory. This was simply another that was nothing but temporary.
Growing restless inside his study, Azazeal left his half full cup of tea on the fireplace mantle and walked outside for some air. The barriers that he and Malachi had set up had kept the zombies and witches and now others from coming to their door. He intended to make sure that it stayed that way until this mess with the Leviathans was over.
Summer in Everett was coming to a close and the cool night air was refreshing. Most of the buds and flowers had come and gone but he lingered around one of the shrubs that kept its purple blooms a bit longer than some of the others. While some thought nothing of foliage these days, Azazeal had always appreciate what he considered to be one of Father's finest creations and made sure to surround any home of his with gardens. The Inn was vastly lacking compared to what he had managed back in his London home, but Lissa had kindly helped encourage some of the plants that had previously been planted to reemerge by using her gift of spirit.
Aside from a few distant cries of the witches in the woods, the night was a quiet one. It was nothing but a lie because the world outside was anything but quiet, but Azazeal would take what he could get when it presented itself.
