It wasn't really necessary, since she could look into her fledgling's mind, see what she was seeing, feel what she was feeling. It had thrown her at first, but since she had never heard of anyone turning a real psychic before, she shouldn't have been surprised when something... odd happened. After all, she could organize her memories and pass them on - any of the Corvinus line could do that, the Elders best of all, and she was more than an Elder now. Even stranger was the way Laurie could do the same with her. When the new-made vampire had aged a few centuries, her powers would probably surprise the both of them.
Since the large infusion of fresh human blood had sped the regrowth of her right arm, Selene had been exercising for strength and dexterity. It was definitely her arm, but it seemed nerves never grew exactly the same way twice, and her new fingers had needed some breaking in. Although she hadn't mentioned it to anyone, even to Frost, it was only recently she felt she was back to what she had been before the creature had so rudely removed her arm.
Her speed and touch on the keyboard were back. She had been playing a little of this and that with the speakers turned on and the front door and windows of her house open to catch the hint of fall in the air. That, and the music, reminded her of one of the times she'd played piano in a bar to provide cover for her hunt for Lycans. It was Germany, early fall, 1939. Jazz was just decadent enough to catch the attention of the young officers and their dates. And the culture vultures had all seen Peer Gynt and were familiar with the incidental music. So when one of the erstwhile master race challenged her to play something fast and jazzy, she'd pulled out all the stops on Anitra's Dance on the grand piano in that smoky room. As she recreated that music on her electronic keyboard, her mind filled in the remembered sounds of the nightclub from over 70 years before.
