Who: Kaitlyn and Gabriel What: Sparring When: Today Where: The Inn, Kait and Gabe's room Warnings: Have some peanut butter with this fluff
After everything they had been through it seemed like things would finally calm down. Kaitlyn fucking hated Selene and if that bitch wasn't an ancient vampire who could eat her up with a spoon Kait would have happily kicked her face right off her neck. But since she was constantly on Gabriel's ass not to do anything stupid, to stop using his telepathic powers on zombies and vampires it meant she had to behave too and picking fights with Selene and Frost wasn't going to get her anywhere. She wasn't done with Frost, not yet but the crazy blonde had kept away and for the time being, Kaitlyn had other things to focus on.
She had asked the Ewings to teach her fight in part because she was kind of hoping that she could use John Ross as a punching bag but also because she honestly wanted to protect herself. She didn't want to have to hide behind Azazeal. The fallen angel had a life of his own and couldn't be there 24/7 to watch out for Kaitlyn and Gabriel. His nephilim guards had gone a long way to making Kaitlyn feel safe but even they weren't infallible. Kaitlyn still had to face Jackal Mac in the few short hours before his death. Her nephilim had been distracted by killing Frost. They couldn't fight two different enemies in two locations. It was just simple science. She wished she had been better prepared to fight with Jackal Mac. She had hit him a few times but he was bigger and stronger and she hadn't been a match for him in that arena. She wanted to be prepared if anything like that ever happened again. She wanted to be prepared if vampires ever messed with them again. She wanted Gabriel to stop hurting himself by using his one weapon against the dead. The more dead energy that Gabriel soaked up, the darker he became. He tried to hide it from her but these days his walls were paper thin and there were no secrets between them.
She hoped that she would inspire Gabriel to work on fighting too. Sure, he was a guy and they were better at that stuff but it wasn't like Gabriel had any practice really fighting. He always relied on his telepathy to get him out of a jam. That was why she had started needling him the minute that she had actually learned something and was turning out to be halfway decent at this fighting thing. She knew she had a long way to go and she intended to keep working with Christopher but for now she was eager to show Gabriel what she had learned.
Why won't you fight me? Afraid I'll kick your ass?
She smirked at him across the breakfast table, satisfied that nobody could hear their silent conversations except for maybe Malachi. She took a bite of her croissant and tried her best to look innocent. She could feel amusement ripping through the web. Gabriel didn't think she had a chance and he was probably right but she didn't care. She wanted to show him what she had learned and maybe her enthusiasm would be contagious and Gabriel would start working on his fighting skills too. If she was learning, he could too. Not everything had to be about psychic attacks. They were living in a kill or be killed world and while they had gifts that had helped them survive this far, it was time to start adapting to their new life in Everett. And being psychic just wasn't cutting it anymore.
Tough talk from a guy who won't even spar with me.
She gave him one last look before she picked up her empty plate and rinsed it off before putting it in the dishwasher. She headed upstairs to their room knowing full well that he would follow her.
