Who: Colleen and Stiles
What: Colleen has a nightmare and can't sleep
When: Tonight
Where: Stiles's cell to start
Warnings: This may be depressing
Colleen had never slept very much. When she was a baby she had driven her poor mother to the brink of insanity and back again because C never slept and she was very demanding. When she grew older and the doctors had diagnosed her with ADHD and gave her a bunch of pills to help her settle down and focus, they never actually worked on her. Ritalin didn't do shit for her and it wasn't until later that it occurred to her that this was the way she was supposed to be. The pills didn't work on her because she was a slayer and she wasn't a very good slayer because the pills didn't work on her.
But when she did sleep, he was always there. It had been easy for Colleen to ignore him or be bored with him. She was difficult to piss off but if you chipped away at stone long enough you could make a dent. C was dented, all over the place. Caleb knew her strings to pull and he knew her insecurities. He taunted her mercilessly about how she was only half a slayer now. Not even the pathetic attempt at a whole slayer she had once been. Colleen thought that the prosthetic Tony had made her was amazing but it would never replace her real actual leg. Caleb made her relive that fall in the pet store over and and over again. He made her think about the choice that Dr. Yang had given her. To live and lose her leg or to probably die and hold onto it. Colleen hadn't really had a chance to think about the choice and it's consequences. She could only think about living and that the pain, that blinding terrible pain. She wanted it to be over but not over.
She had made the wrong choice. She was a joke to all of the other slayers. She knew that Faith and Shannon loved her and probably even Kennedy did in her own psychotic way but they looked down on her and not just because they were all taller. They hadn't really thought much of her as a slayer when she had both legs. At least when she had both legs she was funny. It was Colleen's saving grace, being funny, being the life of the party. That was who she was but things had changed. A lot of things had changed. Dominique had died and then she had lost her leg and then Buffy died. People kept dying.
Waking up suddenly and covered in sweat she had to look around for a few minutes to realize that she wasn't actually in the pet store laying on the floor in agony. She wasn't actually being given the choice to keep her leg, it was already gone. She gave her little stump a forlorn look. She hated that stump, hated looking at it. Hated knowing that she would never be up to full strength again because of it. It had ruined her.
Shannon was breathing softly from her side of the cell and C briefly thought about waking her up and telling her what was wrong. It wasn't like she was going back to sleep any time this week. If she was really honest with Shannon she would probably sit on her and C wouldn't even be able to say shit because she had literally sat on Shannon during the Glory attack. Nope. She didn't want to bother her fellow slayer. Who else? There was Damon but he was kind of touchy ever since Nate died. She could probably coax him into smoking a joint with her but she wasn't really in the mood to get high. There was Adrian but he always had a lot of stuff going on.
Stiles. Duh. They hadn't been spending as much time with each other since all of his friends showed up at once but they were still hanging out. Besides, if anyone else wasn't sleeping right now it was probably Stiles. He had ADHD too but the pills actually worked on him. But when he didn't take them, he and Colleen could stay up for days at a time doing ridiculous shit. Grabbing her crutches she hobbled down to his cell and was glad to see that the grumpy wolf was nowhere to be found. She leaned the crutches against the bars and crouched down in front of Stiles's bunk.
"Stiles," she whispered and poked him hard in the ribs. "Are you sleeping?"
