Stepping back into The Dollhouse was always a conflict for Priya. It was why she and Tony had been arguing for months because she stubbornly refused to see the good that The Dollhouse could do. It was hard to imagine the good, even with a product of it standing right in front of her. They had saved Tony, they had cured his PTSD from the war. But to Priya it was a place that she had been kidnapped to and turned into a sex slave for fucking Nolan. All because some rich spoiled asshole couldn't get what he wanted. She held onto that anger and that hatred, held onto it until the day that Tony almost died when they were fighting Glory's minions. If it hadn't been for the medical knowledge that The Dollhouse had put into her brain and Max Evans, Tony would have died. From that moment on she had embraced the idea of The Dollhouse.
The facts were there. The supernaturals now owned this world. Whether it be zombies or vampires or vampire slayers or dhampirs or fallen angels or whatever else she could imagine. They were the new dominant species and humans were falling by the wayside. The tech could give them an edge that they may not otherwise have. Sierra was a part of Priya and she had intimate knowledge of different fighting techniques, weapons and medical training. She was also fully trained as a spy and other various special operations. Sierra had a much better chance of surviving the apocalypse than Priya did. Priya was just a bohemian trying to sell her art on the boardwalk. Sierra saved lives.
"I've got all the servers up on the generator," Jondy said, breaking Priya out of her train of thought. Jondy had training with the technology. Priya wasn't sure where Tony had met her but she was all hands on deck when it had come time to actually try to give the first upgrade. She had even found their first subject. It was a middle aged man named Bert who lived in the projects and was covered in vampire bites. It was easy to figure out just how exactly he had survived there. Priya was hoping they could give him a boost so that he could live among the vampires without being a constant food source if he didn't want to be.
"Are you absolutely sure you want to do this, Bert?" Priya asked. She caught the warning look Tony sent in her direction but ignored it. If she was going to help with this, every person that sat in the chair was going to do so of their own free will. Nobody was going in that chair without knowing the full implications ever again.
"Yes, ma'am," Bert muttered with a polite nod in Priya's direction.
"What exactly are we giving him?" Jondy asked curiously from where she stood near the computer screen.
She had already uploaded Topher into Victor's mind earlier in the day and they had spent all afternoon remapping Bert's mind to prepare him for his first imprint. She wasn't sure if she would ever get used to seeing Topher's pronounced mannerisms and style of speech on Tony.
"Well, see that's the thing. I gave him a little bit of everything!" Topher/Victor exclaimed excitedly. "Not only will he have the martial arts upgrade but I added a little bit of psychology and forensics in there so he should be smarter too. My own little favorites mashup."
"We're going to be using a lot of juice," Sierra said, her Australian accent had melted away to give way for her American one, the one she used when she was being a doctor.
"The generators should be able to handle it. Keep in mind I've never done anything exactly like this before," Jondy said, her light blue eyes bouncing back and forth between Sierra and Victor. "I'm not sure."
"Not exactly comforting," Sierra muttered.
"It's gonna be fine. I've got flashlights and snacks if the generator goes out. Jondy's a genius. She's almost as smart as... well, me. I'm sure we'll be fine," Topher said.
"Are you ready for your treatment, Bert?" Topher asked. He nodded and Jondy watched the screen carefully as his chair dipped back so that an imprint could be uploaded. Sierra was watching the patient. The tech could fry and they could rebuild it. They couldn't rebuild Bert. Well, technically Topher could rebuild him but that was besides the point.
"Here we go!" Topher exclaimed and flipped the switch.
The chair whirred to life and suddenly the lights flickered and went out completely, plunging all three of them into darkness.
"Damn it."
