Who: Melissa and Adam
What: Moving On and Leaving a Message for Faye
When: Now
Where: Chance Harbor, WA
Warnings: no
The drive from Everett to Chance Harbor was long and laborious thanks to all of the abandoned vehicles on the road. Melissa and Adam had to change cars at least four times before they finally made it back to their hometown. It broke Melissa's heart to see her old familiar neighborhood covered in the walking dead. The two of them had decided to leave the crystal skull in Diana's care while they were gone and so they could only rely on their own magics to get rid of zombies. That was fine with Melissa. She had gotten rather good at killing zombies during her time alone and she and Adam had been alone for awhile before Cassie had joined them. The crystal skull had definitely boosted their power but with or without dark magic, the two of them were a force to be reckoned with.
They started with Melissa's house where Melissa had to kill her father. He had been turned and there was no helping him. After the house was cleared she laid with Adam in her bed for hours, letting him hold her as she cried. She knew it would only get worse the further they searched. Old friends, teachers, parents had all joined the ranks of zombies. It didn't make killing her own father any easier but as she lay there with Adam thinking about her life and where it had taken her a deep dissatisfaction had covered her. She realized then that she didn't want to go back to Everett. She and Faye were nothing short of estranged these days. Things were tense with Cassie around the two of them. Diana's personality makeover had been hard on them all. Melissa would miss Sesshy but he wasn't enough to go back for. She didn't want to go back.
It had taken her a few days to bring it up to Adam and by then the two of them had turned the Glaser home upside down. Melissa had already looked all over the house since the moment Diana had found her family's book of shadow. Melissa wanted hers but was never able to find it and it wasn't as if she could ask her father where he kept it. He had been a very smart man, staying out of all of the witches affairs probably in hopes of keeping Melissa out of it. She guessed he wasn't that smart since he was a dead zombie and she was still alive.
Finally a sledgehammer taken to the basement turned out to be a fruitful endeavor. Melissa never would have found that damn book of shadows as long as her father was alive. Because if he was alive he might notice the giant gaping hole in the wall that Melissa had finally pulled the book free from. Her and Adam spent several afternoons pouring over every single page, absorbing everything they could before they moved on to try and find Adam's book.
It was then that Melissa finally found the courage to bring up not returning to Everett to Adam. She was surprised when he immediately agreed. Everett was too crazy. They didn't have a complete circle without Jake. Being around Cassie and Diana was hard for Adam too. The tension between the prison and the projects and Rebekah was too much for him to handle and he had been pulled right into the middle of it by the blonde vampire.
They couldn't just leave without a word though. They all worried so much about Jake and Melissa would never want her friends to worry about her and Adam that way. They deserved to know that they were safe and alive but not returning. Because they were so far away from Everett they couldn't access the network anymore to leave them a note. Instead Melissa found a spell in the Glaser family book that would allow her to reach one of their minds. She had the strongest connection with Faye and happened to have a few pieces of jewelry handy that Faye had left at her house before the outbreak.
She and Adam set up the circle with candles and the right herbs with Faye's things in the center of the circle. The two of them closed their eyes and held hands as Melissa tried to make her mind calm and quiet before she reached out with her mind. She could feel Adam lending his strength and magic to her as her mind finally connected with Faye's. She could feel the confusion from Faye's end.
"It's me, Faye. It's Melissa," she said in Faye's head. "I just wanted you to know that Adam and I are safe and we're okay but we're not coming back to Everett. Things are too crazy there for us right now. I'm sorry. You'll always be my best friend and I just know we'll see each other again. I love you but I can't be with you guys right now. I'm sorry."
And with that she blocked Faye from her mind before the other witch could react. All of the candles in the circle were extinguished all at once. Melissa wanted to cry because she was so amped up on magic and emotion but one look in Adam's eyes made her feel like everything was going to be alright. He folded her up into his arms and rocked her back and forth on her bedroom floor for a little while whispering everything would be alright.
Melissa felt the truth and power in his words. Everything would be alright as long as they had each other.
