Carol had just finished her morning breakfast shift in the kitchen and had made her way back to her cell. She was scheduled to do housecleaning later that afternoon. She liked keeping busy. It kept her mind off what was going on outside. Not that she could ever forget, considering she'd lived out in it for nearly three years, and it had ended her daughter's life.
She was straightening up her side of the room and then moving over to straighten Erin's as well. The other woman never asked her to do so, of course, but she used to be so accustomed to straightening up after others that it was second nature for her.
Her mind drifted momentarily to Daryl and she smiled faintly. She'd started becoming friends with both Mercy and Sookie, who were also his friends. People she may not have known otherwise. But if he liked and trusted them, so did she. Because she trusted Daryl with her life. And he had great instincts.
She wondered how he was doing, since she'd barely seen him since he'd brought her to the prison. She was sure he was keeping busy with stuff of his own. The idle thought crossed her mind that he was too busy to bother with her anymore and she frowned, wondering where it had come from. Ed, no doubt. Still in her head. She wondered if he'd ever not be in her head.
She heard a faint noise at the door and turned, surprised to see the very person she'd been thinking about standing there. She couldn't help the smile that spread across her face. No matter how many other friends she made or people she got to know, her friendship with Daryl was special. Different. "Hey, you."
