Scientific American. Serena nodded and smiled at this but found it a little off putting. She wasn't sure how to relate to a girl who preferred a science journal to the fashion and makeup world that Serena had once been so entrenched in. Once upon a time, Serena van der Woodsen had been the It Girl. The Paris Hilton of the Upper East Side. She had paparazzi stalking her every move and the latest and greatest of every designer possible. Now she could barely find a decent pair of pumps.
But at least there was Cosmo. Serena would always have Cosmo. Even if she read the same issue over and over again it was like she could create a little piece of her own world or at least imagine that it hadn't been completely destroyed.
"I used to live in Manhattan," she said, leaning against the wall on the other side of Sidney's bunk and making her five foot ten figure right at home. "I worked for The Spectator for awhile, it was a gossip newspaper. I'm not sure if you ever heard about it. My friend Nate, he actually owned it. You'll probably see him around the prison too. He's really nice."
Suddenly Serena felt a bit stupid. Of course a girl who read Scientific America wasn't following The Spectator or Gossip Girl. Why would she even care?
"Where are you from? I'm sure it's way more interesting than New York."
