The tinge of disappointment didn't go unnoticed. He wrinkled his nose a little at the thought that something about her response was amiss, he just didn't know what to make of it. He wasn't exactly the most socially skilled person in the world even though he wouldn't admit it. For a second he thought it might be because she was upset he was leaving, but he banished the thought from his mind. That was ridiculous since he'd be coming back.
He looked over like he wanted to say something but then thought better of it and kept walking in silence.
Before long they were at the prison and he flagged the same new sentry who had let him out to let them in. No one would give him trouble for bringing in someone he knew, surely. She would probably get some job washing sheets or something and be safe. That was the main thing, she'd be safe. "Home, sweet home." he murmured with no affection as they stepped through the front gates.
