Bonnie wasn't grieving. There wasn't time for grief when she was too busy working to find the right spell. That and she was angry, downright pissed the fuck off that her friends and even Jeremy didn't believe in her abilities. She had every power at her disposal. With the combination of Bennett, McBain and Balcoin blood running through her veins, Bonnie was just beginning to understand her destiny. While she might spend her days folding the laundry of others, she could break anyone in the prison in half with her pinky finger. She was arguably the strongest person in the prison and her friends didn't believe? Not even Jeremy could believe that she had the power to pull this off? Well, they would all look pretty stupid when she managed it and Matt was back where he belonged with his friends and with Spencer.
With spellbooks and grimoires laid out across the tables in the magical space that she, Luna, Phoebe and Willow worked out of, Bonnie poured over spells and incantations. There were no real spells to bring the living back from the dead unless you wanted them to be a zombie. Which was what her friends were all afraid he would be. Bonnie knew that the magic would have to come from somewhere within her. She lit the candles and sat down in the middle of the circle, focusing all of her energy on Matt. She had taken his old football jersey from his room and that was the centerpiece for the spell. She was meditating on Matt, focusing all of her energy on his essence. She pictured him the way he had once been, sweat dripping off of him after a game, smile that was made of pure gold. Matt. The warmth that surrounded him, the way he made everyone feel.
Her eyes opened with a start and she felt magic flow through her body seamlessly. Bonnie wasn't afraid of who she was anymore even if she could hear Grams in the back of her head telling her this was wrong. She had pissed off the dead witches once before by bringing Jeremy back but she had survived that. She could survive this too. And even if she didn't, at least Matt would be back where he belonged. The candles began to dim suddenly.
"Quod mortui resurgent. Quod lux non est in perditionem. Ego præcipio spiritus redeat ad quod raptum. Ego præcipio vobis. Ego præcipio vobis."
The wind blew the candles out entirely and Bonnie's hair flew back as she stood up and began to walk to the nearest exit. She had to go to Matt. She had to help him return back to the life that should have been his. She didn't stop until she was standing beside his grave and then she fell to her knees. The dirt was still soft where he had been buried.
"Redire furto vitae. Reduc eum!"
The dirt beneath Bonnie began to shift suddenly and she could feel something like a crawling sensation run against her bare legs. She was jolted from her trance like state when a snake slithered past her and buried itself in Matt's grave. "No, this isn't right." she muttered. The ground moved again and she felt her nerves rattle. Why was there a snake? The ground continued to move around underneath her and suddenly Bonnie realized what her friends had known all along. This wasn't right. She couldn't play God no matter how much she loved Matt, no matter how much he would be missed. He wasn't coming back. He. Wasn't. Coming. Back.
Suddenly the ground underneath her stopped moving. The snake that had slithered into Matt's grave slithered right back out and disappeared into the nearby forest. Bonnie hung her head, one tear sliding off of her cheek to soak through Matt's grave.
"I'm sorry."
