He laid his arm across Ianto's file, subtlety tucking the photo of his once-lover away. No time to reminisce when he had to figure this woman out; where she was from and why she seemed to be investigating him as much as he was investigating her. But the world had gone to Hell; who was what anymore didn't really seem to matter and Jack was alright with that because now there were more people with whom he could relate loss to. Everyone was alone around here; it wasn't just him anymore that felt cold and alone, without the people he loved.
"Not too unusual when they needed a Captain after theirs went down with a plane a couple weeks before they called me." He said with a shrug, "After the Air Force I created Torchwood, something not a lot of people have heard of. Think of it like the secret UFO investigations that J. Edgar Hoover was into, or whatever. This whole vampire, werewolf, mutant shit? Nothing new to me. We investigated the paranormal. That was until my team was murdered. Then this whole thing broke out. I left with the military to New York City, but Manhattan was lost. I left the day they napalmed the streets."
Conveniently leaving out that he'd been their hostage for a time and not an active part of the military, it was on a need to know basis and not even Gwen, the only one left from his former team, knew.
"I'm settling here because the people here need some organization. Faith is a great leader but she can't do everything on her own." He said honestly, "I wanted to take charge of team raids. Some people go out on their own, which I never recommend, abilities or not. I want everyone to be safe and survive."
