Faith had been feeling pretty antsy ever since her confrontation with Buffy. For once, she didn't believe that it was Stefan's fault or that it had anything to do with him. His blood had long since worked its way out of her system. And that was good because knowing her luck she'd slip, fall and break her neck and wake up with fangs. She had no interest in being a vampire now or ever. Even if Buffy and Angelus did have other plans.
There were all sorts of things to worry about now and no it wasn't Stefan's fault. It was so clearly Alec's fault. He had been the first one to arrive. He'd told her she should expect company and to open the place up for people seeking protection. Alec had come up with the idea for the leadership council and the running of the prison. All of it, every last detail had been his idea. With his military training he had a better idea of how to run a place like this while Faith openly admitted that she had no idea what she was doing.
And now there were people that were counting on her. People that she actually gave a shit about even if she didn't want to admit it. She had told Emily that she didn't do friends but was that even true anymore? She didn't consider any of the people in the prison to be her friends but she couldn't deny a certain affection for them. She just didn't know what to call it or what to do with it.
She was doing her usual walkthrough of the prison. Just after dinner she would walk once around the grounds just checking into things. She made sure that the fence wasn't in disrepair in some of the lesser used portions of the prison. Once she was finished walking the grounds she would walk through the inside of the prison from top to bottom. It usually took her a couple of hours but gave her a chance to stretch her legs and check in on people that needed checking in on.
She paused just outside of Max's cell. The other girl was laying on her bunk reading a magazine and Faith knew that Max could sense her there even if she wasn't acting like she could. Things between the two girls had been strained for awhile now. Max didn't say anything and neither did Faith and The Slayer wondered if maybe that was because of the two of them were cut from the same cloth. They seemed to have a lot in common, especially one word that started with an A.
Faith wasn't stupid. She saw Max leave the prison and return empty handed. And while it was possible the transgenic girl was just taking a break or a walk, Faith thought that chances were good that Max was actually checking in on Alec.
"Hey," Faith said, hanging in the doorway of Max's cell. She was glad that Violet wasn't around. She didn't want the kid to overhear any of this. "You got a sec?"
