Derek raised an eyebrow at Erica's poor attempt to not look as though she was about to kill someone. "Erica." He approached her slowly, because even though she knew him and knew he meant her no harm there was no accounting for a sudden lapse in judgement at any possible threat.
He could hear the shrill creatures dining as well, but there came with practice at least some way to tune out the ever present noises, to focus attention on something else to distract from anything too excessive. It was something he would have taught her if they had had but time.
Derek turned his gaze down to her belly, focusing on the baby growing in there and listening intently for a few moments at the pounding of it's tiny heart.
"You're both healthy," he said, because there was no question about that. "Erica, look-" straight to business was probably the best tactic. Derek wasn't going to try and lull her into any kind of agreement or negotiation. She was staying. "-I don't want to be a dick about this, but I know I'm going to be. I can't let you go out there. And you know it's not just because I worry about the zombies, because I have no doubt you can take them out and out run them, but there are other people living out there. In the...village thing. And they will kill you if you go on some wild rampage near where them. I don't understand why you want to go outside anyway. I know it's a pain in the ass, believe me I'm not happy about being locked up, but it's safer."
